It has much finer "runners". that arent; like the ones you get in buffalo. If you can find somewhere you can check a few out side by side. we were lucky enough to find a place with Empire Z, palmetto, sapphire, couch and another buffalo. Re: Type of grass for Perth 5Aug 10, 2010 11:28 pm We all know my #1 choice but I also use Sir Walter and Palmetto from time to time. Re: Type of grass for Perth 6Aug 11, 2010 1:35 pm Hi Ladsos, After our introductory meeting with the estate landscaper we are going for Palmetto. Give it a few years and follow the advice of what is here at Homeone ( of which there is loads) and you will be happy Good soil, good amendments like zeolite and bentonite clay Re: Type of grass for Perth 9Sep 13, 2010 12:41 am Hi Fu Manchu just after some advise. Got sir walter layed about 3 weeks ago. we are watering twice a day. how long does it need the extra water for and when would we consider getting it mowed? thanks Lisa Building the Pegasus New Generation Bletchley Pk, Southern River Land purchased 03/2009 Contract 06/2009 Prestart 09/2009 Land cleared/sand Pad 10-12-09 Fittings done 17-12-09 SLAB!! 18-12-09 Brickies started 27-1-10 Roof Started 2-3-10 Lock Up 13-5-10 Re: Type of grass for Perth 10Sep 13, 2010 12:49 am I am already down to once every second day however I am in Sydney and I have a clay based soil I went outside once. Re: Type of grass for Perth 11Sep 13, 2010 7:14 pm It's going to depend on a few things. What soil prep was done? How was it done? Did you include soil amendments like Bentonite clay and zeolite and spongolite? Then factor in the wind. If it gets windy, your lawn and soils will dry fast. Never mind heat, wind will be far more effective at drying a soil. You can get an idea by pulling at a few random corners to see how the roots are bedding in. Not much I'd say till the soil warms with warmer night times. I hate to even entertain this but get a soil moisture metre. If you can get a good one that is excellent. Those cheapo bunky ones are a worry but maybe all you can get. It will give you a crap idea about what it is like down there. There is never going to be a rule of thumb. It will vary from week to week depending on conditions. Don't baby this stuff. We will be having some serious water restrictions so get those roots chasing water deeper. Re: Type of grass for Perth 12Sep 13, 2010 9:14 pm We laid Sir walter bufalo a year ago. It has been great, but we did lose about 1/3 over summer. I did have a couple of days of my sprinkler system not working too well over Christmas, but still, I don't think I should have lost so much. Other than that, it's good grass. I have a terror of a border collie too and he hasn't done any damage.
