Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Sep 05, 2010 5:00 pm Hi All, Has anyone had good experience in eradicating Guildford grass / onion weed? I ripped up a pretty sorry looking lawn at the end of last summer with the idea of establishing a blank canvas. Problem is, now that im ready to lay new turf, my canvas is now covered in Guildford grass. The area is only 25m^2 so I could get busy and dig up all those bulbs, or should I spray the area with roundup? I still need to bring in at least 100mm of organic soil and mix it through. Re: Eradicating Guildford grass before new lawn - WA 2Sep 05, 2010 11:07 pm I gave up trying to kill ONION weed I just mix up some glypho with dishwasing liquid and then bruise the leaves and spray I have had very limited success I went outside once. The graphics were alright, but the gameplay sucked! Settlement:22nd June Slab:27th August Frame:16th Sept Bricked:21st Oct Roof:24th Nov Linings HANDOVER23rd March! Re: Eradicating Guildford grass before new lawn - WA 3Sep 07, 2010 12:24 pm This will be ongoing after the new turf has been laid. As I have often posted, the method of treatment is similar. First, feed the Guildford grass with some powerfeed or anything really that you have laying around. This gets it actively growing. It has now been lulled into a trap. It is hungry and pumping things around it's self a heap now. Wait a week or a day or two less. Then you pounce Like a Tiger in the Guildford Grass Use a Glypho based weed killer. (Round up, Zero etc) Mix a diluted amount with a splash of seasol in a container or a bucket. (Pointless using it neat, it is just a waste of your coin.) Get a broom handle or long garden stake, tape a cheap paint brush on the end. (No bending down for you and being resourceful) Add two or three drops of dishwashing liquid to it. (This will help the mix not bead off the waxy leaf surface so much) Wait for a good dry spell of at least three or four days. Do this in the morning only. Paint it on manually with a brush. Repeat in a few months when what is left comes back to try again. You could also take a look at using ChemSprays "Winter Grass Killer" which contains Endothal. That should be worth a go if the Glypho treatment doesn't work. You will get there in the end ... No spraying the area will not really solve your problem but if you do, follow the same principal but throw away your bucket and brush contraption. Convenient, yes, effective, not as much Oh and swear at the Guildford Grass too. It might not kill it but it will make you feel better Or think of people you don't like (Like me telling you to do all this stuff ) while you are doing it. DIY, Home Maintenance & Repair Please help me to answer this question , it will help me a lot as i can go to buy confidently with your recommendation: I want to put synthetic turf in our backyard for… 0 5540 the leaves that are now underground go yellow, the tips that poke through photosynthesise and have chlorophyll, same reason they grow rhubarb in the dark. 5 4864 I am in the same situation, would you be able to give some insights in to this?
