Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Aug 30, 2010 11:38 pm Hi All, Just read about this mob in our local rag. http://replants.com/ Has anyone ever heard of them? Do the prices sound reasonable for a grass tree? Thanks, Chris Re: Replants for grass trees. Anyone ever heard of them? 2Aug 30, 2010 11:53 pm Yep, One of only two Grass tree mobs I am aware of. They save grass trees that would otherwise be bulldozed to clear land for urban development. The guy who runs it is a pretty switched on fella with a heart the size of Australia when it comes to the environment. They recently supplied a few North suburbs councils for some landscaping projects. On another note, I'd love to get my hands the idiots that think driving a 4wd into a Grass tree and knocking the top off is fun. Never mind the 300 years it took to set the joke up up for them. F^%kin' idots!!!!!! Re: Replants for grass trees. Anyone ever heard of them? 3Aug 30, 2010 11:59 pm Grass trees WA do potted ones where they are grown and established out of the soil for a bit. replant do things on a faster time line to save them. Cheaper but no guarantees. He saves way more that way! Just get as much of the soil as you can with the grass tree as they need a type of stuff that provides it's nutrients. Like a fungus sort of. The two need each other to survive. Don't bloody set them on fire either. You have more chance of burning your house down than doing the grass tree some good. To clean 'em up, a chainsaw up the sides to trim them and use some acrylic black paint to colour the trunk black No soil improvers or manures when you plant them. Maybe a certified organic soil at best. Lots of molasses and seasol over coming weeks and months to help the soil get strong with living organisms and in particular to re establish the mycorrhiza that live around the roots of the grass tree . You have more chance of burning your house down than doing the grass tree some good. Ha! I heard Sue McDougall telling some bloke to do that on the 6PR morning show a couple weeks back. I don't know that we actually want a grass tree specifically, but I have always liked them, and am looking for a couple of semi mature trees for the nature strip. 300 years old should be considered mature enough huh? Anyone ever heard of them? 7Aug 31, 2010 12:44 am Yeah do not BURN them If you want to give them a kick the ashes or smoke water but Fu is right there is a beneficial relationship between the grass tree and fungi so keep any anti fungal treatments well away I went outside once.
