Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Aug 30, 2010 2:39 pm Hi Guys, We moved into our beautiful new house two weeks ago and now its time to get cracking on our garden. We have a decked Alfresco area at the rear of the house, thats centrered so you step out onto the garden. We are thinking of having Lilydale topping as a path down the side of the house and extending this in front of the deck perhaps a metre or so wide, more so the kids can use it to ride trikes on etc. Other option would be just to have the turf up to the deck so you step down onto the grass. Have asked opinions of friends with decks and they tell me that Lilydale can get a bit messy/dusty on the deck and they are constantly sweeping it up and it then leaves dusty footprints in the house. Here is a pic (has been cleared since this pic) http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c330/ ... Garden.jpg Backyard is not huge, from deck edge to back fence is approx 8m and yard is 15m wide. We plan to have a garden bed along the back and the right hand side a large wooden cubby house/kids area. Any thoughts ?! Re: Lilydale Topping Path in front of Alfresco deck - though 2Aug 30, 2010 8:12 pm I've has Lilydale toppings before and unfortnately they're right. Your deck will get a chalky dust on it that short of scrubbing it down will allways be there. In fact I used to find the stuff everywhere - in the car, in the house, on the footpath. Its quite messy. The only thing it has going for it is that it packs down hard and sort of sets once its been there a while. You could look into decomposed granite but I'm not sure if that has the same problem. Re: Lilydale Topping Path in front of Alfresco deck - though 3Aug 31, 2010 1:43 pm Thanks Mozzie, I think we have gone off the idea of Lilydale topping, am now thinking about a paved path that we could extend to one side for the kids area where they can have their sandpit (easy to sweep sand off pavers!) or just grass it up to the deck. Decisions decisions, its driving me nuts, wish the garden would just appear like magic all done overnight Hello everyone, After some suggestions and ideas about how to put a concrete path around the drop edge beam area on our new build.
