Get it actively growing and really hungry. Go to garden centre and buy "Tree, Blackberry and Woody weed killer" Mmmwwwwuuhahahahahha. Now it should already have lots of fresh lush leaves again by now (well maybe not but give it a few weeks and it will ) Mix it according to the directions, dilute a splash of seasol, and add a few drops of dishwashing liquid. Spray in the morning, and not before rain. Needs a good few days of sunny weather and active growth Good bye Privot. Oh and if that doesn't work, see the picture above for further ideas Re: Privet removal 4Aug 26, 2010 8:14 am If it's a mature tree, I cannot imagine any other way than the traditional - get the tree removalists. That's what happened next door. If it's still just bush, maybe some good mattock can help with root remnanats after the above-posted treatment. I did read if you didn't get all the roots out it grows back, and if you leave the stump, it grows back! I was thinking of getting in someone to get the big one at the front but wanted to make sure he recommend the best way to get rid of it. I will have a go of the little one in the courtyard I think. Thanks again so much and I will let you know how it goes Re: Privet removal 6Aug 26, 2010 8:18 pm I know you guys "have heard that..." However follow my directions and it will be dead, so too will the roots. Let the stump rot in the ground if you want or get a stump grinder later down the track. Get a tree mob and grind the stump by all means. You'll still come ask me the same question again when they shoot up everywhere Just do it as I said and should be fine. Re: Privet removal 9Aug 27, 2010 12:10 am We used the blackberry and tree killer on a Japanese Pepper tree we had growing in our yard. We just followed the instructions on the bottle and mixed the poison with some turps and kept cutting into the stump and painting it on straight away. Eventually, it all died and we had no further dramas from it, so we had a stump grinder come in and get rid of the evidence Re: Privet removal 10Aug 27, 2010 9:22 am I cut the stump to ground level and painted the stump with blackberry and tree killer. That was five years ago and it never came back. Building tip No. 3: A raft slab will not get you down a river. A waffle pod slab does not go with maple syrup.
