Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Nov 06, 2007 8:22 pm Hi all
Totally new to the term "landscaping". I have just built a new house and about to put in a driveway but I was thinking before I do that it may make sense to ask few questions. How much would it cost for a landscaper to design my frontyard (inc driveway) and maybe the backyard and side yard. ok ok.. basically around the house................ How much would I expect to pay for just the design work alone? Re: New House: How much would it cost for landscaping 2Nov 06, 2007 8:55 pm Some 'landscape architects' will charge you several thousand dollars for designs.
I would take your plans to your local nursery; a lot fo them offer a design service for a sset fee, and you can use that dollar value back on plants. I would suggest you get some ideas about what you want, lifestyle, plan ideas budget etc etc. Get a soil PH kit, and do a test before you go. Get some magazines and articles, this will help what type of garden. Dont forget EBAY for pavers and retaining walls etc. Adrian B Re: New House: How much would it cost for landscaping 4Nov 07, 2007 8:55 am What area are you from Jacky?

.:. Turf - we can get it for $4.50 per sqm, laid. So maybe around $3000 .:. Front Yard Landscaping - about $2000 for retaining walls, top soil and levelling .:. Levelling of entire yard - $500 .:. Top soil over entire yard for turf - $1500 .:. Plants/mulch - no more than say $400 Total - about $8000 for a basic set up. Then you have to do fences, sheds etc. We are doing the planting ourselves but are getting other people to do the topsoil, levelling, turfing etc. It actually works out cheaper! Our Adenbrook home was completed in September. Re: New House: How much would it cost for landscaping 9Nov 14, 2007 8:09 am I have decided that when we are trying to work out a budget for landscaping, we may as well say 'how long is a piece of string'!!!
I watched an old episode of Gardening Australia yesterday and they were doing a small courtyard in melbourne ... they tallied it all up at the end and it cost $27k. It was literally a small courtyard!!!! I almost fell off my chair ...looks like the backyard will take many more years than first anticipated Re: New House: How much would it cost for landscaping 10Nov 14, 2007 9:52 am It doesnt have to cost a bomb, you just need to be smart, do some research and open your eyes.
Our water featrue base was going to cost us about $00 for the trough, but we went to a market and found one for $150. I bought merbau off EBAY at 35cents per metre cheaper than any retail outlet. 30 cents I hear you say. But when you buy 400 metres of it, the savings add up. I am watchin EBAY for pavers, a colleage told me he saw some going for 40% of the retail price, but I could not get to the PC in time, and they went. What can you d yourself? Some things must be left to professionals, some should be, others shold not. Why pay a sparkie to dig a trench for a power cable? If you know it nees to be 60cms deep, you dig the trench. A simple thing like that can save you hundreds of dollars in labour. Unless of course you can work and make more money than you would spend to get the job done. Hi aaurora Can you tell me what type to turf you can get for $4.50 laid? Seems really cheap!! I agree - I am the boss!! Re: New House: How much would it cost for landscaping 16Nov 16, 2007 12:55 pm That turf is only Blue Couch, but he said it is really good quality. We were thinking about getting buffalo, but that would be 3 times more expensive. I think the couch will be fine?? If you want his number, let me know. He is from Logan Village. Our Adenbrook home was completed in September. Re: New House: How much would it cost for landscaping 18Nov 16, 2007 3:22 pm thanks for that info Aaurora - we need to have most of that done too.
Don't forget markets are always the cheapest place for plants and they are good quality. Dare i suggest that some of us Brisbane people form a gardening coalition? One day at everyones house each - could be like a working bee - to help everyone keep their costs down. Homeowner provides bbq lunch??? Just build it the way I want and everything will be okay. Re: New House: How much would it cost for landscaping 19Nov 16, 2007 3:39 pm slugger - it's amazing when it comes to turf prices.
we want empire zoiysia - best price I could find to buy & lay myself was $6.50m2 - but then I would also need underlay. The guy who is doing our lawn irrigation (sub-surface to be water saving) will do turf + underlay + laying $6.50m2! 7 11872 I ended up going with 'Andrew Belic Construction Co.' https://www.instagram.com/andrewbelicconstruction/ 2 59595 I thought this would be a popular question but I haven't been able to find any similar posts.
