Just doing my research on a tree that has been recommended to me. Its the Flowering Ash, or the Fraxinus griffithii.
I dream of a tree which has a bit of substance, one that I can put my bench seat under to look out over my lawn, and one that will give me a bit of a canopy for a side area which I want to create a rainforest type fernery area in.
My biggest worries are the spot I want it in is in the corner of the yard, over the top of an easement, and its about 5 metres on the diagonal from the corner of the house. What is the root system like, I've been told its not like a normal Ash, but I need to hear it from someone like Fu who is in the know!!
I currently have three Cleveland Select's planted in a row in the backyard and will plant the entire gardenbed with an underplanting of liriopes, canna lillys, cycads etc. But I was attracted to the Flowering Ash for the feature, as it had the evergreen nature, and seems to tick the majority of the boxes.
Will I be alright with that option? I originally did like the Elegantissima but the $24 price tag of the Evergreen Ash as much nicer than the $600 of the rare Gleditsia!!
