Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Aug 13, 2010 10:41 pm hi, I'm searching where to buy cheap pavers to be stepping stones in the backyard? I hope it will be closer to mel north for easier transporation. I only need 50-60 pieces. I know there are many many different types like honed, calibrated... but I am not fussed with that. Some questions: Which shops do u source your best buys? I just checked ebay but can't match the quantity. Also, is $6 a good price for sth like 400x400 ? I prefer something with a bit of texture, but for those stone-like surface ( like slate surface), will that hide dirt very easily? thanks. Re: Where to buy cheap stepping stones/ pavers 2Aug 13, 2010 10:43 pm Nott, try Austral in Craigieburn. They have pavers there as well as bricks and sometimes you can get seconds and clearance items for quite a good price. They will also deliver for a reasonable fee. I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Re: Where to buy cheap stepping stones/ pavers 4Aug 14, 2010 7:38 am Don't buy the cheapeast ones that Aumann's sell - the quality is really cheap too. They break very easily, not enough solid stuff in the concrete mix. Or something. Texture may hide dirt, but it can also trap it. I think the colour will dictate how obvious dirt is. As long as there's still construction going on nearby, you're going to be sweeping/blowing pretty often. Reminds me, I must get out and give ours a clean.... Re: Where to buy cheap stepping stones/ pavers 5Aug 14, 2010 10:21 am joles Nott, try Austral in Craigieburn. What joles said, austral have their seconds yard next door to the main quarry/yard in craigeburn. If you head up the hume its hard to miss the Austral logos on the hill and just take the first craigeburn exit and turn right iirc. Definately cheaper, as they have not only some minor damage items, but also out of production ie whatever is left that they arent making anymore, or batches that dont quite meet the standard color variation specification for that product. Other than that, even just buying direct pavers aren't that bad for basic concrete ones, but delivery is about $60-100 or something if you don't have a suitable way to transport them. Often selling pavers second hand is not viable for many and it is easier to offer a "you remove" situation to get them up and gone My back yard is made up of two types that are very similar in shape and size and the colour variance has meant i achieve a look I could not get if I tried from bought bricks We find them on Gum tree (as you guys would as well) and here in the Quokka. You guys would use the trading post You'll need a ute, or trailer or better still hire a 3 tonne truck for half a day and get it done fast A few mates and a couple of cartons at the end of the day with a feed. Either way the responses so far make use of second hand or not perfect item,s and the results will be far better than you may think. In fact if you can get recycled clay bricks at a good price or better still free they offer an example of a better finish than bought or new bricks. Many of the worlds best landscapes make use of second hand or recycled materials. Re: Where to buy cheap stepping stones/ pavers 9Aug 14, 2010 5:39 pm Fu Manchu Thank Fu. Great resource, especially if you need to get rid of builder's waste on your land before building. Re: Where to buy cheap stepping stones/ pavers 11Aug 25, 2010 12:27 pm Thanks Fu, kek, Joles and others for the information. Last week I found that Boral also listed their defected/ discoloured pavers and others in ebay. ( Those are sold in the new Boral factory outlet in Deer park) Re: Where to buy cheap stepping stones/ pavers 13Aug 25, 2010 4:26 pm There is a pave world opening up in Mernda at the garden supplies place - they may have some opening specials... Both our closest and us got hold of some clay pavers seconds when we did our last house. They were a batch where the colour was wrong. They must have made thousands of them. about 1/3 the price and did a great job. 18 years later they still looked great. Re: Where to buy cheap stepping stones/ pavers 15Aug 25, 2010 11:20 pm Not sure if you can see this pic, but the guy doing it is using bits and pieces from here and there. If you think it isn't going to look good well think again, it is in the open garden scheme http://tweetphoto.com/40660584 Re: Where to buy cheap stepping stones/ pavers 16Aug 26, 2010 3:46 pm yes, Lisa, I saw the pave world advertisement board in bridge inn road roundabout. There also is a pave world ( the same as above or cambellfield one?) next to a fuel station, when you turn right from yan yean road, intersection of the Heritage garden centre. However, we never had gone there for a check. Appreciate that Chippy. I won’t do sand under pavers and will connect all up under pavers, however I was going to do: 1) Roadbase compacted with manual hand tamper 2)… 10 18563 |
