Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Aug 12, 2010 2:54 pm Hi there I'm new to this forum and would love any advice anyone could give me on the best sort of trees to put in my west facing backyard to try and create some shade (it is like being on Mars in the middle of summer here in Adelaide in my yard currently!) DH and I are in the early stages of planning an extension, but we'd like to plant all the trees along the back fence asap in Spring, so they're as big as possible when building finishes (hopefully in the second half of next year). We are outsourcing everything with the design and build, so we'd like to attempt the garden ourselves... at least in the first instance One day we'd like a pool, so ideally the trees we choose wouldn't drop too many leaves. Does anyone have any thoughts on relatively fast growing trees that will grow tall enough to shade the western sun?
