Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design Re: Stacker stone retaining walls 21Aug 15, 2010 9:38 pm I think the stack stone look works well as small feature pieces of an overall design but as i a whole wall i think the style is starting to date a little. I am seeing it pop up everywhere including McDonald's outlets, enough said... I have seen products including flat textured stone/slate that you tile onto the wall/blue board and grout the gaps giving the traditional stone wall look with out all the work. Anyway my 2 cents. Re: Stacker stone retaining walls 22Aug 15, 2010 9:41 pm That's ok, everyone has different taste. I know the stacker stone is a trend that will date soon, but I still like the look. And I guess if i like it, it will never date in my mind. that's what I'm telling myself anyways. So what is this new product that you're talking about? I've never seen or heard of it. Do you have a photo? thanks Idiots are fun, that's why there is one in every village! - Dr. House - Re: Stacker stone retaining walls 23Aug 15, 2010 9:50 pm If it is done well it won't date. I mean look at some of the stuff done in the 60's and I know yeah it looks 60's but it has maintained a wonderful sense of style in many applications. Maybe not go to town with it. The stuff done in the 60's was better quality masonry though. Re: Stacker stone retaining walls 24Aug 15, 2010 9:53 pm I'm hoping that's the case. I will be having the retaining wall in stacker stone, but I want to put plants in front of it to soften the look. Hopefully it all ties in together nicely. I'm not such a big fan of those, i still prefer the stacker stone look. It looks mint, not as engineered. Buggered if i can find it on the net. Best of luck with whatever you choose. Re: Stacker stone retaining walls 31Aug 18, 2010 10:16 pm @beatrixkiddo, do you mean something like this: http://i484.photobucket.com/albums/rr209/wonderland69/new-grand.jpg I've seen these for sale which looks like stack stone, but more of a natural look. Thank you for trying to help, much appreciated. Would be interesting to compare a quote from a stone landscaper to build the real thing vs the pre fab tile and frame. Re: Stacker stone retaining walls 33Aug 19, 2010 10:54 am I have agree with some of the forum members have said about the dating aspect of this stacker stone. However something getting "Dated" is very personal and more to the point, fashions and trends have this nasty habit of getting dates for a period of time only to become 'the new black' a litle while later. Personally, if the stack stone look gives you that warm fuzy feeling, go for it - it does not matter what any one else thinks.
