Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Aug 03, 2010 10:45 am hi everyone, I was wondering whether anyone has used the stacker stone retaining wall system from TJ Imports? Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ I am wanting to build a retaining wall in my front garden, its going to be about 1m high by about 6 metres wide. I've seen houses use the stacker stone as their feature for their retaining walls and I really liked the look. I've been searching on the internet for a place that provides stacker stone and came across this website: http://www.tjimports.com.au/retaining-wall.php I was just wondering whether anyone has used this before to built their retaining wall? Is it easy to do? Any advice would be appreciated. Its not strong enough to retain anything. There is a good chance that behind that is a sleeper retaining wall with cement sheeting screwed to it and then stacker stone cladding glued on with tile cement of some sort. Re: Stacker stone retaining walls 4Aug 03, 2010 2:03 pm No they are actual retaining wall blocks with the stacker stone look. Check out the website as it shows how to construct the retaining wall. You could save a packet by just building a brick wall of some sort and cementing the cladding to it. its the same, this guy has just designed a product to cater for the lazy! Re: Stacker stone retaining walls 6Aug 03, 2010 2:10 pm Yea if building a brick wall was so easy, i would probably do it that way as well. But i would have to get a brickie to come and build my brick wall, then buy the veneers to stick onto the bricks. Wouldnt that cost more? How much does it cost to call someone out to brick a retaining wall of around 6mx1m? OR check ebay or gumtree, they always have cheap cheap bricks on there. Doesnt matter on the colour either cause they are cladded. Stacker stone cladding is not cheap.....again with a bit of googling you could find yourself a bargain but be prepared to pay, I found cladding all over ebay.... I have a feeling that this TJimports bloke will charge an arm and a leg for his product..... Most brickes, last I checked charge about 50c a brick to lay....maybe a bit more...but maybe im wrong! hehe... Re: Stacker stone retaining walls 9Aug 03, 2010 3:53 pm Thanks. I will have to go into the store to speak to one of them. I guess not many people have used this product. I don't like the look nor do I like the idea of providing a ready made home for spiders and the like. Each to their own though. Re: Stacker stone retaining walls 11Aug 07, 2010 12:36 pm I think it looks great. It's a great idea for someone wanting a DIY retaining wall. Below are 2 pics of a house I went in to recently. We would like to do something similar in our backyard (although have a shorter wall). I think it's really effective as a feature. I have colour-bond fencing which I then want to put in front the "stacker stone feature wall" (section 2m high, 3 metre wide). So what is durable (ie for outdoor), takes the weight of the stacker stone, and should it be attached to the colour-bond fence. I have rung James Hardie and they said that their products are not for outdoor. Any ideas ? If not, then could you please give me the name of the "display home" where you took the photos and perhaps I can enquire there. Thank-you ! Re: Stacker stone retaining walls 15Aug 12, 2010 12:16 pm Xquisite, according to the website, their retaining wall block system starts at $165 psm. Hopefully it doesnt cost much more than that. I will give them a call and ask soon for the exact price of what i want. Ita0001, does James Hardie sell those stacker stone veneers? I've spoken to a few stone places which stock them and they say that its perfectly fine outdoors. I think TJ Imports are a wholesaler so they sell their stock for alot less than other retailers. Its worthwhile to give them a call and ask question. Rowena, that does look really nice. I want to build something like that as well in my backyard someday. Just dont have the money yet to do it Idiots are fun, that's why there is one in every village! - Dr. House - Re: Stacker stone retaining walls 16Aug 12, 2010 2:03 pm Thanx Wonderland. Unfortunately for me TJ Imports is in Melbourne, I'm in Sydney. I already have the stacker stone, I just want to know the right material to "stick" it on, that is for weight and outdoors. Cheers... Re: Stacker stone retaining walls 17Aug 12, 2010 2:13 pm I have done a little bit of research into building stacker stone freestanding walls as feature walls. I think, and correct me if i'm wrong, most people build the frame with treated pine, then stick blueboard or villaboard onto the frame to make the wall. Then they use adhesive to stick the stones onto the boards. But make sure you waterproof the boards before sticking the stones on. Call any place that sells stack stone veneers and they will be able to direct into the methods used. They would know what works with their veneers. Good luck.
