The soil teems with worms everytime you turn over a spade full. This is the result of 25mm of rain in 12 hours....and has already drained somewhat! Did you just dig a trench around and then fill the inside with soil? how does that help? oohsam-all that you do is dig out the trench as a boundary/edge around your garben bed. I then put the dug up sods of soil on top of the bed so that it builds it up slightly....it means that the water will sit in the trenches and slowly disperse rather than flooding the garden beds and drowning the plants. In the summer, the trenches can be flooded once a week or so to water the trees and plants as required.....the trenches will also slow down any Summer rainfall so that it is retained on your property and ergo you then have to water less... Trench edging is also very easy to maintain-just tidy up as required with a line trimmer and/or spade. sweetime wow Deemaree - you could grow rice in those trenches Deemaree Kyndylan Capers: viewtopic.php?f=36&t=46852 My blog: http://www.sufficientlysufficient.blogspot.com/ 2 4342 I've dug some footings to embed a post anchor into.
