Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Aug 01, 2010 9:40 pm Hi, I'm currently modifying our irrigation system, which has been setup only to water the front of the property. We have ripped out the front lawn, and replaced with fruit trees watered by drippers. I'm now in the process of planning the irrigation system for the backyard, which will require running the mainline from the front about 19 meters along the side of the house to the back, where I plan to have about 3 valves watering various plants using drippers, along with a small bit of lawn watered using the existing sprinklers that were in the front (~5 popup sprinklers). Since we ripped out the lawn in the front, we also ripped out alot of 20mm PVC pipe that were used to water it. My question is, can I use these 20mm pipes as the mainline for the backyard? The mainline that is in the front is 25mm PVC, so maybe 20mm is too small? Thanks for any help. Re: Irrigation mainline pipe size backyard. 2Aug 10, 2010 1:36 am yeah 25mm will be fine. 20mm you may get away with but could be iffy without knowing flow rates and water pressure. I'd be using 25mm for peace of mind. If you are using drippers on the trees look at using the Netafim drip line which will provide a much wider area of even watering rather than isolated spots of narrow wet earth with drippers. If you use regular drippers spend the time adjusting them when finished to get even water flow from each. Also use a few per tree so you get better root growth. I've started using 20mm, I believe it should be fine with the flow rate. I've put 4 drippers per tree, so that the roots grow better. Thanks. Hi all I am looking to run a water line under my concrete footpath which is directly next to my home, was seeing if this is possible without cutting the entire section… 0 20176 Hi Brainstrust, I had a go at creating my own irrigation plan, keen to get some feedback. It will be run from one 750-800W pump, off 2* 5000L rain tanks. Each zone… 0 22749 yep sounds good make the footing bigger to to allow for the pipe in the middle 3 7314 |
