Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Oct 30, 2007 12:37 pm Hi folks,
Just learnt a little trick from a gardening show (it's so nice working from home .. get to catch up on viewing that hubby doesn't like). After you have made your garden beds, while the plants are establishing, every 2 weeks or so mix seasol (the required amount) and 1 cup of gypsum into a watering can and water your plants as normal. It will assist in the establishment of the plants and helps the soil break down. Re: Clay soil - tip 3Oct 30, 2007 12:55 pm sssshhhhhhhh ... new people don't need to know about the ones that have died.
so just in case people don't want to take notice because i'm a plant killer ... this was from Gardening Australia .. not my tip Re: Clay soil - tip 5Oct 30, 2007 1:36 pm Good tip though Amber.... Hopefully, kill two birds and no plants.. .. with that one makes it less demanding doing the garding and clay breaking from one trip around the garden.... If you need to break up clay soil for these sorts of plants, use a liquid clay breaker that doesn't contain gypsum. Then you can do it to your heart's content.
Don't mean to sound alarmist, but the plants I mentioned above make up 80% of my garden so if I try it I'll end up with very little to look at! And always make sure you wash any of the stuff off the plants. They don't like it on their leaves. Or, if you can't be bothered, just plant roses: they love clay soil. --Mike Everything I know, I learned from SBS. I've got a couple of those so i'll steer clear of doing it now.
Just a quick question for you cynarion - you seem to know what you are talking about. I have planted kangaroo paws near my camellia bushes. A friend just said 'woops .. shouldn't have done that as they don't like each other and one will die, most likely the camellia'. They have all been in the garden bed for only 6-7 weeks (about) so would you suggest that I move them away from each other now before they establish themselves?? I've dug some footings to embed a post anchor into. My holes are around 450mm deep which I'll put a 200mm stirrup into. The bottom of these holes seem firm enough. … 0 3302 Thanks for your reply. I will just wait and see I guess. Trying to get some more information from our builder. 9 30236 I am not sure whether Perth has its own way of doing things in regards to this. Most of Perth has class A (sandy soil), except for some areas near rivers or hills. 2 13063 |
