Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Jul 01, 2010 3:11 pm Thank you in advance for your comments and advice..... I am a single female who has recently built a new home. I have been reading through various posts and have some ideas but am still unsure about where exactly to start. I have an exposed aggregate side path and outdoor area completed alongside the house on the northern side. The backyard faces the east and north. It is a meduim sized area which may include grass or plants. I will use remaining bricks as a path. I have a double brick retaining wall along the length of the south side of the house. I live on a corner block and face beautiful parkland.... I also have large windows and dont want to block this view with large trees. This is a shady side, what plants would bo good to use here? Probably nothing more than a metre tall, easy to maintain, low water usage etc. The front yard is on the western side and is all quite open. I am open to your suggestions. I have 6 eucalyptus trees on the nature strip, all of which are over a metre tall. Again, I dont want anything too big to block the view but I do want some greenery and not just a rock garden. I will be doing the majority of this on my own and as you can imagine it is a big job. To be honest, I dont even really know the basics about soil preparation and planting.... any words of advice, websites etc would be greatly appreciated! A DIY one stop shop would be appreciated! I suggest you do a search on here for Fu Manchu + soil and start your research there and you will learn a LOT of VERY valuable information! Where do I start?!! 3Jul 01, 2010 7:31 pm Maybe u could start the front first. U really could get much ideas by driving around/ walking around ur neighbourhood and see how others do their front gardens. When u noticed the one u love, took pics. They would be v useful to help u organize ur ideas and identify the plants u love to use later. Also when u drove around, u could see how those with similar orientation/ facade/ setting worked out their front garden. I guess in ur case, u might need to take more look to those corner blocks. Don't rush urself. Complete the front part by part particularly if ur front yard is large. Re: New Landscaping....
