We have this area: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ We would like to pretty this up - ALOT !! We were thinking covering up the brick work - and had some ideas around slat work to match the weatherboards on the house and to make the garden bed in to a bench seat style. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Does anyone have any ideas of what we should do to it to bling it up a bit? I'd like to keep the colours light and white to open the space up and don't want to spend a million - just want to get it up and read y to use for right now until we can really sink our teeth in to it. Should we go slats? render? some kind of bamboo/grass fencing? Any help is muchly appreciated Re: My courtyard/entertainment area 2Oct 22, 2007 4:22 pm I'd put down some of those Freedom decking panel squares which just slot together with plastic clips on top of your pavers. Add some large colourful pots with red Cordylines in it. Some kind of vine (passionfruit or grape) to grow over the carved bricks, replant the garden bed with some colourful plants, planted in clumps, tallest at the back, with plenty of mulch to stop any weeds and a set of table + chairs with colourful table runner!
Good luck, looks like a nice sunny little spot to have breakfast. Building a Jandson Espirit in Pennant Hills "What is the use of a home, if you haven't got a tolerable planet to put it on?"Henry Daniel Thereau Re: My courtyard/entertainment area 4Oct 22, 2007 7:01 pm My thoughts…..
Since you want to do it on the cheap, so you can get to it later down the track, I will suggest some cheap alternatives. As scary as this might sound…. I would keep the Bessemer Bricks and just repaint them gloss white. With a small timber bit of slat work above them. Also…. keep the garden, take out all the old soil and replace with new soil. Plant hardy small shrubs like, Decania or Yuccas and use some up lighting for effects with cheap solar lighting. Hit your pavers with a Water Gurney to clean them up. Put small covered candles on the lower wall ….(top photo) to create mood. Now all you need is some furniture, get yourself a 6 seater timber outdoor set, with a couple of extra spare chairs to place around the space. All you need now is a few coloured ceramic pots with more plants and more solar lights in those. Hang some outdoor artwork on the walls, and you have a very inexpensive but quaint outdoor area for now. Hope this has helped.
