What about some of the darker pebbles to contrast with your pavers and pathway? (Please disregard this advice, if someone offers something better! ) Re: What colour pebbles for my garden? 3Jun 09, 2010 7:30 pm fairy blue I have no credentials in this area but I'll have a go! In case you don't know( from another thread), I'll be putting a 1 or 2 tall ceramic pots in the bed amongst the pebbles. If you used something like the southern grey, you may still be able to have your dark pots. *slowly backing out of southies thread, before the 'qualified' garden people arrive and laugh at me* Re: What colour pebbles for my garden? 10Jun 09, 2010 8:49 pm No not those - more like these http://cgi.ebay.com.au/BULK-Garden-Pebb ... 335dc704e1 We got the snow white in the larger size I thnk they are 5-7cm big... My karma ran over your dogma Re: What colour pebbles for my garden? 11Jun 09, 2010 9:46 pm I'd recommend a darker colour or the southern grey, anything but pure white. I have a fairly large area of white pebbles in my garden (laid by the previous owners). They looked nice and white and clean when they were newly laid, but now they are quite grubby and have some greenish mould growing on them. I'll be getting rid of them at the first opportunity. Re: What colour pebbles for my garden? 12Jun 09, 2010 9:51 pm I was going to suggest the same colour as your stepping stones. We have like a crushed sandstone colour in our garden against very dark charcoal pathways, I like the light next to the dark. Re: What colour pebbles for my garden? 13Jun 10, 2010 7:34 am You've got all sorts of colours with your bricks, spouting, gravel and pavers, so it would be hard to go wrong. Personally, I'd go for a bit of a mix - greys with some of the slightly yellowy pebbles to tie in with the gravel. The Southern Grey has a nice mix in it. Re: What colour pebbles for my garden? 14Jun 13, 2010 8:14 pm I like the southern grey but the sunset peach has a bit more contrast. Instead of thinking light and dark re your pots, maybe you could try a different way and think colour. Which colour? I think you were thinking of dark red? I think the really pale grey would be nice too. Are your bricks more brown or grey? They change in the light and the photos. Also if you choose whatever pebbles colour, lets say Southern Grey, there is nothing to stop you from getting a bag or 2 in another colour (that complimets of course) to scatter, blend and mix. I love the 3 sizes (I plan to have that) medium and small but a few scattered large lucky stones (you could hand pick them?). I like the natural look of the size mixes. www.themaxbuild.blogspot.com forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=20717&start=300 www.leahspaperpassion.blogspot.com Re: What colour pebbles for my garden? 15Jun 13, 2010 8:22 pm Thanks everybody...........will go out to a few suppliers to sus out the colours. Southies! It is such poor soil and even with soil prep what will continue the healthy soil cycle? Pebbles will never feed the soil Re: What colour pebbles for my garden? 19Jun 14, 2010 8:33 am He's baaaaaaack!! Where have you been Fu?? You've been sorely missed Yes, I know Fu........gotta improve the soil . Was going to do just that but started digging & hit what I think is sandstone (heaps of s/stone 'round here) so there's nothing left to dig up . Also, can't build up the bed because of weepholes, so only solution I think is to make it aesthetically pleasing to the eye. Hence, pebbles & a couple of pots.
