Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 May 24, 2010 11:41 am Ok, so I've read so many posts by the great Fu Manchu my brain is buzzing but I just wanted to check its not too late to topdress the lawn now? Our lawn was put down 7 years ago, its cheap crappy lawn (worse than wintergreen) and it was scalped by a ******* lawnmower man a few years back just before a run of 42 degree days and never recovered. But we're looking to put the house on the market in a few months so I want to do as much as I can for it to get it looking good. I was going to get some of that compost from gardeners direct (and some molasses). And, how far will 1m3 go? Thanks eta- wow, never thought that word would get censored, lets just say he was less than qualified, and very quickly replaced! my new build thread- Ben Trager https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=89826 my switch build thread (2011) https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=36569 Re: Is it too cold to top dress? 2May 24, 2010 9:13 pm It is never too late (ie winter) to add some organic matter to your lawn area. If you are in an area where it just started to rain, like here in Perth it will be great for it, it will get washed in and will start to recover when spring arrives. You will not notice much change when it is cold. maggie Re: Is it too cold to top dress? 3May 25, 2010 1:34 pm Lawns are pretty dormant at the moment so you probably wont see much change but if you put on a thin layer you may get some action for a litlte while longer, especially if the lawn is in good sunshine. I would suggest give your lawn a mow to get it even but not too close, you want a decent leaf to prodtrude, and then spread about a cm evenly, maybe a bit thicker in the low sposts to level it up. Use a grass rake and soil spreader to get it even. Give the lawn a good water beforehand or if it has rained should be fine, spread it pretty dry so that the lawn can get through it and a couple of days later water it in when the leaves look to have come through. If your lawn is shady and dormant already I would probably give it a mis, just use seasol & molasses, or spead a very thin layer. One cube is a fair bit, it equates to 1cm over 100m2, or 2cm over 50m2 (5 x10m), however if it is compost it will dissapear quickly. Whatever you do dont bury your lawn at this time of the year or it may well never come through. Re: Is it too cold to top dress? 5Jun 17, 2010 1:48 am You guys rock Make sure you don't use gymickie and tackie lawn topdresses sold by bulk soil joints. Get an organic and preferably certified wonderfully composted soil that shouldn't smell. If it stinks, don't buy it Do as they have said, some top advice Oh and Keen, I know a bloke who also likes your work Depends how much direct sun it gets. Is there any shading (eaves or trees)? If the sun hits a window directly it doesn't matter too much if it's double or single… 1 10091 Hi guys, I want to butt a concrete vegetable garden bed against a concrete build up of a carport.
