I want to do this to reduce the summertime heat on the wall. Any suggestions? Thanks Re: Wall Creepers 4May 25, 2010 11:27 am Creeping fig is thought to damage walls and needs to be kept in check, ie trimmed quite often. Another that comes to mind is Virginian creeper, it would be great for your wall as it looses its leaves in winter before turning blood red. You can see it growing on the walls of Winthrop Hall of UWA. I have two, one covering my shed, the other a northern facing wall and keep it in order by cutting it back to the ground in winter, it grows back in no time covering large expansions of wall. Just to let you know it attaches itself to the wall leaving marks on brickwork if you remove it. it is very vigorous. maggie Re: Wall Creepers 5Jun 02, 2010 9:02 pm Not to keen on virginia creeper as it loses its leaves in winter...I want to hide the brickwall view all year round...any other types of climbers or vines that dont need support (I'm not allowed to attach any structure to my neighbour's brick wall) Re: Wall Creepers 6Jun 10, 2010 8:03 pm Native Sarsparalla aka Hardenbergia. Re: Wall Creepers 8Jun 16, 2010 11:29 pm I once spent 2 years removing a climbing ficus or creeping fig from a property. It covered a little wall about 3x2. it's roots went the thickness of a football down to a tennis ball over some 30 meters of the property! It would shoot up everywhere once I removed it off the wall. It was pulling the brickwork apart. So when choosing these types of climbers be sure to understand that most species can be destructive to property. It isn't advice based one experience Thank you again Simeon.. I will call my certifier for that.
