Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 May 05, 2010 1:30 pm I had a brief read of some previous posts in various areas to see if I can get an idea on if our one quote (so far) for landscaping is excessive but thought I'd just be lazy and see if someone could give me their opinion. In a nutshell we were quoted $23,000 for everything, this includes lawn @175m2 with subsurface irrigation ($11,000) and strip garden along the fences with irrigation and moss rocks 8tonne $12,000, this all includes about 25 tonne of soil. The above is obviously a very "broad" question but $23k is way over what we want to spend and I am thinking that we might do it ourselves, I have 2 strong teenage boys who would benefit from getting away from the X-Box but as far as gardening goes I'm a total dunce and don't want to stuff it up. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Vid Re: Cost of general landscaping job 3May 05, 2010 3:03 pm We are doing everything ourselves most likely. It's going to take a while but once we are unpacked and settled in properly it'll give us something to do. front garden I have designed but backyard have no idea yet and may get a landscape gardener to do the plans & plant types and we'll do the rest ourselves. Re: Cost of general landscaping job 4May 06, 2010 6:45 am vid, have a look at Southies' landscaping thread - they did all the hard work themselves, turf included. I think Haywgl did too. Re: Cost of general landscaping job 5May 06, 2010 12:32 pm We did all ours, too. I did start out as pretty much a beginner with black thumbs, although my partner had a bunch of experience with retic before. That part's not hard to get started with, though. Requires a bit of messing around and patience, not much prior knowledge. Turn up to Total Eden and they will design the whole system for you, sell you all the parts, and tell you how to put 'em together. I think the hardest part was deciding what we wanted... and agreeing! Doesn't sound like you have that second problem Go on, post your block plan. We at homeone love designing other people's gardens!! Err, just reread your post. What on earth are they planning to do with 25tonne of soil??? Thanks, Vid I can get turf laid for $10/m2. $11k seems way too much for grass and irrigation. Re: Cost of general landscaping job 7May 07, 2010 1:13 am $23,000 for everything - breakup: 175 m2 of lawn and subsurface irrigation for lawn ($11,000) strip garden along the fences with irrigation and moss rocks 8 t $12,000, plus ~ 25 t of soil Did they give you a separate cost for 175 m2 of lawn only (no subsurface irrigation)? And for 25 t of soil? What type of soil is this - good garden soil or just to level the yard? This really sounds a lot ... My signature is distracting people from my wise posts ... Trouble is, a lot of customers check out landscaper's portfolios and neglect to factor in that most of the projects posted on their sites will be 50K+. For your project, consider investing in a week-end TAFE course to get to know the basics. You'll be positioned 1000% better with some basic knowledge under your belt when considering DIY. You should check your detail drawings, it may show downpipe within brick pier. 14 14023 Regardless of wall hung toilet or floor pan toilet your feet will be right on drain, seems to me the waste should not be in that location given the design.
