Well I took the plunge and attended a Great Gardens Workshop thanks to Fu Manchu (thank you so much Fu!) - I just had to rave about it! Seriously, every H1 member in Perth should go sign themselves up to attend one. The speakers were entertaining and knowledgable, and the talk was well paced. We all got to ask questions and talk to the guys during the lunch break. After coffee and a feed it was back into it, and at the end they had a raffle with some garden products as prizes.
We scored a ton of freebies (walked out with some fish and seaweed solution, a sample of Fertilise Wise approved fertiliser, some kangaroo paw seeds and a 20kg bag of soil enricher courtesy of an awesome bloke who won it in the raffle but Very Kindly gave it to my us, as he knew we were starting with a blank canvas bless his cotton socks!). And a tasty lunch courtesy of them!
Most importantly, we walked out with a far better idea of how to set our garden up sustainably, using all the principles that Fu has touched on many times on this forum. There were free brochures on choosing plants that grow around your area, in your type of soil, as well as (and I'm very hard to please in this area) some nice ideas for native gardens.
Very, very, very highly recommended. Sign up for free here: http://www.greatgardens.info/events.php
