Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design Re: How much did you budget for for landscape & garden... 2Apr 20, 2010 1:14 pm Have a read of this viewtopic.php?f=19&t=21643 3 grand would get you something very very basic. (DIY) 10 is getting better basic. (DIY) 30 is getting there with a fairly high finish for what most would consider as being flash. From there up gets to be magazine stuff (DIY) That summary is massively generalised. Actually most Landscape associations have photo galleries for budget brackets of awards one by their members. The links for the landscape association gold mines of info and inspirations are in the choosing a landscaper thread. Re: How much did you budget for for landscape & garden... 3Apr 20, 2010 8:33 pm hmm I guess I can't assume that includes retaining walls or paving? if it doesn't include paving, fences or retaining for a standard suburban block then that's a lot of irrigation and planting. Re: How much did you budget for for landscape & garden... 4Apr 20, 2010 8:41 pm well with no paving or walls, just softscaping 3 grand would be about right. Retail prices for irrigation. Retail for plants. Two good sized feature trees would cost around $800 retail. turf, you'd be paying retail. Smaller block sizes of course that would be less. Blocks around the 600/700m2 would cost that. Maybe some paving for a path or some gravel for a path on a budget. Re: How much did you budget for for landscape & garden... 5Apr 20, 2010 9:00 pm Let's see.... we're up to around $28,000, and we're not quite done. There's a bit more planting required, a small pergola, some extra pavers to be added, plus a water feature and some feature lighting still to go. That amount doesn't include our front landscaping, except for the driveway and portico decking. The soil, mulch, about half the plants and the labour was part of our land package, so we probably saved a couple of thousand there. There are more savings in DIY-ing whatever you're capable of, and also in sourcing cheap plants. Re: How much did you budget for for landscape & garden... 6Apr 20, 2010 9:24 pm excluding paving and retaining walls we have around 5k to do approx 250m2 of lawn, garden ,including approx 10m3 of organic soil, retic plus 7 or 8 large trees. plus hopefully a veggie bed. how much more we get done depends on quotes that come back. lawn is $11m2 including laying ( not including gst)out of that budget for around 100m2 waiting on quotes for retic to come back atm Our bit of fencing is another 2300 on top of that. Plus some rabbit proofing wire, not included in the price Of course that isn't even considering the other 2000 m2 + of yard that we are not going to do anything much with. and then not included we will need another 3300 for another retaining wall. haven;t even mentioned paving for under the alfresco or the side of the house or an extended patio for later on. Eventually a garden shed and some rain water tanks.. or gravel for a driveway cerrching $$$$$ Re: How much did you budget for for landscape & garden... 7Apr 20, 2010 10:37 pm Yep 3 would be rock bottom basic. Re: How much did you budget for for landscape & garden... 8Apr 20, 2010 10:44 pm Plants for back yard $1,000 Fences & gates $3739 Concrete - driveway and paths $14,455 Patio roof $15,729 PVC blinds $11,650 Brickwork (labour) $1,700 Excavation/Plumbing $850 Plants & stones for front yard $1,500 Garden edging - front yard $550 Artificial turf - front yard $2,990 Turf for back yard $900 Dingo and soil - back yard $760 TOTAL = $55823. But it would have been $28,444 without the sunroom. Blog: http://bluemistkids.blogspot.com "Never be afraid to try something new. I don't think it will cost me any more than that. All labour is DIY (beauty of having a big family) Our house thread: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=18335 Re: How much did you budget for for landscape & garden... 11Apr 21, 2010 11:08 pm Lunchtime mine will be diy - over a very long time. Already spent the landscaping budget on house upgrades. Mine too. We have allowed for fencing & a retaining wall, builder is doing driveway & alfresco & we will do the rest over time. We have a fair number of different bromeliads & a few other lillies & other plants I took from my last garden so we will save a bit there but otherwise it will unfortunately have to be bit by bit for us. I have started picking up plants now when I can so the expense is spread but we are going to need to spend big $ on some tall bamboo as we just found out behind us is going to be 2 storey & we want privacy asap. Cheers Kim Re: How much did you budget for for landscape & garden... 12Apr 22, 2010 1:10 am LIAV website lists generally $150-$300/m² based on a design being 60% hard landscaping and 40% soft. It should only be taken generally though, landscaping has that many variables, materials and labour content, that some jobs are impossible to give a figure before quoting. $300/m would be generally for jobs with high end pavers and detailed work. One retaining wall will be two steps of 800mm each. Add pavers, plants, soil, gravel and another sleeper retaining wall on the fenceline and it adds up. This is all DIY over a long period of weekends spent moving dirt and gravel etc. Just picture digging out 10 cubic metres of fill and then halling it up a hill one wheel barrow at a time. There is no rear access. Its a massive job and I hate every minute of it but I refused to pay to have it done professionally. I think if you can budget for it and have it done as soon as you move in then your long term sanity will be better, however most things can be done yourself - its just a matter of alot of will power and effort. I think most people choose to ignore it because its easier to pretend it wont cost much and will be easy rather than thinking about it when you are pricing your house and land. Re: How much did you budget for for landscape & garden... 15Apr 23, 2010 11:59 pm Landscaping (especially softscaping) is a labour of love for us... We have been going for 3-4 years now... Nowhere near finished and loving every minute of it... Hardscaping can wait!! Plants take longer to grow.... Once they are in, then we can worry about hardscaping... . Well, that is what we think anyway....
