You should see my place, they are everywhere!
I don’t want to spray them, as I don’t want to make the birds sick.
How long before the little suckers die on their own?

I found this somewhere, can't recall now Quote: Soak four garlic cloves for several days in one litre of cold water and then blend. This will kill ants, caterpillars and cabbage worms. A stronger brew can be made by using hot water and adding several red peppers, ground up, and adding two tablespoons of pure soap to help the spray stick. Use spray when solution has cooled I suggest you strain the mixture before pouring it into a spray bottle, otherwise you'll clog up the nozzle. Re: Caterpillar plague!!! 3Apr 17, 2010 3:14 pm Those little suckers are going to turn into flying mother ships... Can you squish them? ^^ try the above treatment. Where you are coming from is where you are going to... Re: Caterpillar plague!!! 4Apr 17, 2010 3:16 pm Yates make "Success" It will not bio-accumulate. It is totally non toxic and will not harm us or anything that may eat them later on. It is also highly effective even when compared with nasty chemical treatments Flying mother ships Re: Caterpillar plague!!! 5Apr 17, 2010 3:26 pm Bloody caterpillars just about stripped my new thyme plant. Hard to spot too, but I picked them off and squished them. Then did a caterpillar patrol every evening till I was sure they'd gone. If you choose the pick and squish method, Michelle, I'd wear gloves - hairy caterpillars can be irritating to the skin. I’m talking about thousands up a tree stripping the tree. Now they have decided to go walkies, they are even in the house. Anyway, that's horrible!!! We had a small tree swamped all of a sudden, thousands of them, but small ones. The tree somehow died later (but can't remember the exact timing so not sure was it related). Seems like you'll need some "professional" touch, like maybe DIY spraying. Would Confidor do (in a prof. spraying bottle)? My signature is distracting people from my wise posts ... Re: Caterpillar plague!!! 13Apr 17, 2010 8:37 pm I can't advise such a thing myself Yates success is what you need. It contains "spinosad" which is not real good for the buggers. However it does no harm what so ever to us or anything that may eat them. There are also some methods involving wrapping the tree with a hessian sack soaked in success. Some may suggest the use of carbryl, however I also cannot support such ideas nasty stuff. Confidor is also some not friendly stuff and will kill a stack of bees instead. It is not going to be effective against caterpillars or any chewing insects. This can be said for any systemic insecticide. The caterpillars will not ingest enough of it to do the job. viewtopic.php?f=19&t=32401&start=0 Re: Caterpillar plague!!! 14Apr 18, 2010 9:08 am Thanks Fu, I'll have a look for it through the week....
