Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Apr 10, 2010 9:50 am Hello, Was just wondering if someone could tell me if the landscaper I hire to build my retaining wall should have a building licence? or something else I should ask about? I have just had a quote from someone who has not mentioned their builders licence in their ad, just that they have a "certificate in horticulture". Is that sufficient? The retaining wall is to be 2 x tiers of 750mm and stairs. Thanks in advance. Re: What qualifications? landscaper to build a retaining wal 2Apr 10, 2010 10:31 pm Sorry, I'm not sure. It's not something I've ever needed to worry about. planned LS might have an idea or Davinci. Give Davinci a PM and ask him He's pretty clued up on the construction side of things memberlist.php?mode=viewprofile&u=6254 Re: What qualifications? landscaper to build a retaining wal 3Apr 10, 2010 10:58 pm Hi, I'm in Qld and I don't think a building licence is necessary for landscaping type retaining because anyone can really do their own retaining if they know how (and in some cases people do them who don't know how!!) But when contracting someone it definitely pays to see some of their work. I've found with retaining and fencing it can vary quite a bit with the finished look (depending on what type you get, materials, etc.), so my advice is ask if you can see some recent jobs of theirs that maybe you can drive by in the local area. Also, keep in mind that if the walls were each 1m or more then they would need to be engineer certified, but being that they are only 750mm then you can usually save here by not needing to get an engineer involved. (Don't know if things are different in different states though??) Thank you again Simeon.. I will call my certifier for that.
