the road base takes up the expansion and contraction of the sub soil if you live on a boggy area there may be a need for suport footings/pads on a very steep driveway a strip footing at the lower end is also required, this helps to counter act the counte lever affect of vehicles Da Vinci Outdoor Living Architectural landscaping http://www.davincioutdoor.com Re: Concrete Driveways 7Nov 30, 2007 9:51 pm davinci standard driveway is 100mm thick with compacted road base to a minimum depth of 80mm after compaction the road base takes up the expansion and contraction of the sub soil if you live on a boggy area there may be a need for suport footings/pads on a very steep driveway a strip footing at the lower end is also required, this helps to counter act the counte lever affect of vehicles Hi, what about clay soils? I had mine layed on clay soild just over two months ago and it is already cracked. The crack is also growing day-by-day Re: Concrete Driveways 8Dec 01, 2007 7:41 am clay soils especially have to have a crushed rock base, when clay dries it shrinks dramaticly, makes concrete crack Da Vinci Outdoor Living Architectural landscaping http://www.davincioutdoor.com Re: Concrete Driveways 9Dec 01, 2007 7:43 am uncleant cracks can be fixed by chasing the out if they are reasonbly straigth
or you can cut the cracked section out if it runs basicly square to the driveway edge and insert a paver inlay if it runs on an angle like most conc. cracks do all you can really do is chase it out, bond the crack and stencil over the top or pull it out and start again Da Vinci Outdoor Living Architectural landscaping http://www.davincioutdoor.com Re: Concrete Driveways 10Dec 02, 2007 8:31 am davinci uncleant cracks can be fixed by chasing the out if they are reasonbly straigth or you can cut the cracked section out if it runs basicly square to the driveway edge and insert a paver inlay if it runs on an angle like most conc. cracks do all you can really do is chase it out, bond the crack and stencil over the top or pull it out and start again Davinci, thanks for the reply. I am going to ask the concreter to cut the section out and re-pour. The crack is on an angle but between the lines they have cut into the driveway, so one small section to repair. Cheers, Tony Re: Concrete Driveways 11Dec 02, 2007 9:17 am if he repours the section make sure he drills into each side of the concrete that is left and inserts y12 reinforcment bars
this supports the new conc and stops downward/upward slab seperation Da Vinci Outdoor Living Architectural landscaping http://www.davincioutdoor.com Hi, I have had them in the past and the pros are: Versatile, i.e many different colours and styles to choose… 1 6872 To my understanding early saw cuts are to control shrinkage cracks, so doing them now would be pointless. Control joints may reduce ugly cracking during periods of soil… 3 9857 |
