Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Mar 29, 2010 8:45 pm Hi all Signed up for our pool today. Yipee. But have a little problem. I forgot about the dog getting out to do his business. At the moment Charlie goes out the laundry dog door then up about 15 stairs and pops out in the garden. So here is the dilema. Just near the steps are is where the pool will be going. So he cant be running around in there. He swims like stone. There is room at top of the stairs for bout 1mt x 3mt for grass. But keep in mind we would have to carry lawn mower up the stairs. So i was thinking as we are getting deck is to may be have sythentic grass in the little patch. Off the ground. Would the synthetic grass stink? I would hose it every weekend. Would putting crushed brick or something under the deck keep the urine smell down? I know the synthetic grass gets hot but charlie is 13year old **** who very lazy and sleeps all day and only goes out once i wake him when i come home from work. Only other option is to have dog door put in our bifold door when we get it made. Dont really want to do that as it would be the first thing you would see when you walk into the room. What do you think? Any other thoughts? Caz Re: Synthetic Grass Yes i know lol 3Apr 01, 2010 1:41 am I know a bloke who took on board my thoughts and criticisms on this stuff and dismissed them. Spent a motza on the stuff even after I suggested EZ. He ended up not being able to use his back garden because of the smell. Had right off the cost of it and ditch it at the tip! It nearly made you puke! He now has a nice lawn in with few hassles Expensive lesson thousands it cost. Yes he used all the chemicals too to stop the smell and no amount of water was getting rid of it. Even when he let it dry it smelt! I have also since heard a few similar stories but that one above is a first hand example, not hearsay Re: Synthetic Grass Yes i know lol 4Apr 01, 2010 5:57 pm We knew a couple in the same boat as you are in. They also had an older dog who was taken out once a day to do the business and that was it. They ended up putting in Artificial lawn and it was fine for a few weeks till it started really smelling. They spent 55k on their backyard (for everything) but it was never used due to the smell. They ended up ripping it out the square of lawn and making the outside into a garden bed and a small square in the middle with a water feature in the middle of that surrounded by red gravel. They let the dog go in the corner of the red gravel and washed the gravel down after a couple of days. I know you mentioned your dog was old and I dont mean to be rude but maybe you could put down gravel and later down the track you could replace it with artificial turf then. Re: Synthetic Grass Yes i know lol 5Apr 01, 2010 10:46 pm Hi everyone Thanks heaps for your replies. I thought it may smell. Okay back to the drawing board. Sounds like real lawn and a ramp for the lawn mower. Oh and rp not being rude at all. Charlie is a old dog and who knows how much longer he has. A day i am not looking forward to but you have to be realistic. Thanks all.
