Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Mar 28, 2010 11:24 am OK to set the scene - We have a fairly large backyard, odd triangular shape (not that that matters) - the long fenceline has a laneway on other side and my neighbours get a very good look into the yard from there. The other fenceline is completely secluded as it has very mature trees on the other side which is the back of a large property so very private. The land currently slopes down from the house with an overall fall of less than 1m. It has a drainage reserve behind the house and the grass grows very well as you can see from our pics below - we mowed in December and the land has been a building site ever since, yet it has still managed to grow back this much. There is a back easement along the small section of fence of 1m and that is where the concrete cap for the drain etc is. We then want the rest of the yard to be pretty much grass for the kiddies to play on. We also want some fast growing screening plants along the long fenceline to give us some privacy from that one neighbour. Since the grass appears to grow really well and quickly, we were thinking turf is probably not needed and we could seed it ourselves - especially as we will be moving in around April or May at the latest so right before winter and some good rain (hopefully!) So where to start? Should we level it out a bit? Is this a job that can be done by my husband and his mates (one of whom was a landscape gardener originally)?? What sort of machines do we need?? How much does lawn seed and whatever else we need, cost?? What lawn is good for SE suburbs of Melbourne? What fast growing screening plants look good and last long?? I want to get it right from the start!! Cheers Caz Caz & Co ALL MOVED IN!! Now comes all the hard work-decorating....
