Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design Re: Rock walls - alternate for retaining? 23Apr 11, 2010 7:29 pm years ago when we were thinking of getting our drystone wall we drove around Edgewater and checked out some of the retaining walls along the road near the natural bushland. There were a couple of drystone walls done along there that looked fabulous. Not sure they'd be there now. We actually got a guy who'd done one of them to do our drystone wall. I must had a photo buried in a box somewhere. pre digital photos. Not cheap if you get someone good with rep. But ours was certainly worth it. We loved it. ( until the cooch started to invade. which was our fault for planting cooch near it) The wall itself still looked beautiful and was as solid as the day it was built 17 years later. Ours was done with moss rock. Not going off to look for it atm. I'm drinking a nice glass of merlot and watching kookaburras with my binoculars. sorry that's the old Edgewater drive in Edgewater if you want to check it out. Someone will know what they are called They have some funny name. Gabions. kek They get used a lot along freeways and major roads here, in median strip landscaping. One of my neighbours has put a few baby ones in his front yard, they're only about 400mm high. Looks like someone's trying to stop their rocks from escaping. I might try to sneak a photo later. It's mostly cacti and gravel with some yuccas; not to everyone's taste, but interesting. themax break free little rocks...break free....... I was out walking today and remembered this thread. Same goes for gabions - but I think these folks missed the point a bit.
