Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Mar 19, 2010 10:25 am Hi Fu, Just after a little bit of advice regarding my lawn please... Below is my lawn planted 3 weeks ago and I am curious as to when to mow it and what you think I need to do from here on in regarding it's health etc etc. It's quiet patchy, in some spots its quiet tall about 14cms and in other spots it would be lucky to be 8cms. Any advice is always highly appreciated. http://i345.photobucket.com/albums/p371/brojas7906/IMG_7707.jpg http://i345.photobucket.com/albums/p371/brojas7906/IMG_7718.jpg http://i345.photobucket.com/albums/p371/brojas7906/IMG_7731.jpg http://i345.photobucket.com/albums/p371/brojas7906/IMG_7733.jpg Ok and another.... Below is my electric pink cordy and I have not idea whats wrong with it, it was looking soooo good at the shop and now, 4 weeks later it looks terrible. It stated that once established they handle full sun well, but as far as I am concerned it hasn't handled it very well at all just by looking at it, also do you think it could be getting too much water??? I water it every two days, untill I can see water coming out the bottom of the pot... Please help this novice gardner...I'm soooo NOT a green thumb. http://i345.photobucket.com/albums/p371/brojas7906/IMG_7730.jpg http://i345.photobucket.com/albums/p371/brojas7906/IMG_7729.jpg Building Thread viewtopic.php?f=31&t=13002 Site start: 8th July 2009 Handover: 11/12/2009! 5 months total build time. 40 sqs of luxuary...Bliss! Re: FU...Where are you??? 6Mar 19, 2010 8:03 pm Hang on the lawn is that seeded turf??????? Do away with that soaker hose as they are almost the single worst applicator of water. In fact it won't be doing you many favours just now. Make sure there is a tap timer as well. The cordy electric pink, well just because water comes out the bottom is no indication in anyway what so ever that the plant has been adequately watered. Looks pretty good to me The weak point with pink Cordies is that they bleach colour in the sun when it gets really hot. Electric pink seems to have the greatest resistance to this. The best thing about them is that even if you buy them over east, guess where they were most likely grown Yep in the west and trucked over Re: FU...Where are you??? 7Mar 20, 2010 8:33 am So what was your verdict on the grass??? Is it looking ok, not too bad, great??? What do I need to do from here on in apart from getting rid of the soaker hose that I have only just bought... bugger! Is it mowable now??? Or is it too soon? Should the cordy be kept out of full sun then being the colour it is? Do you think it might need more water??? Re: FU...Where are you??? 8Mar 20, 2010 9:56 am Seeded lawns can end up a bit patchy for a few reasons- birds eating the seed, the seed being broadcast in more places than other, wind/water moving it away from various areas. Was the seed raked into the top layer of soil? Was the seed raked into the top layer of soil? Sure was raked in. I really just need to know if it's ok to mow it already? I can't seem to find any info online so was hoping for some advice here. Re: FU...Where are you??? 10Mar 20, 2010 11:29 am mow it, seed it with more. Re seeding is nearly always going to need be done. Organic compost/ soil improvers spread around. When choosing a seeded turf in a box, choose a Munns one. They have the highest germination rates of all of them. Yeah buy a cheaper one but if as little as 50% or %70 is likely to germinate then what is the point. Munns have the highest rates of germination Ants also like the seeds That stuff will be fine to mow, it will tidy it up nice enough, just be careful not to take too much off.
