Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Mar 11, 2010 10:46 pm Today I saw some great topiary lilly pilly plants (classic ball shape on a stick) for $60 each. They were probably around 30-40cm in diameter and very well pruned. These plants in pots would be absolutely perfect for the doorway/front entrance to our home. But I'm wondering whether this is pricey? What would we expect to pay? I'd rather buy them at a smaller size if it meant saving some money. But haven't got time to shop around at the moment (in the midst of building a house). We'd be positioning them on a north-facing verandah, which the store owner assured me is OK for lilly pilly. What do you think? I'm in Adelaide. Re: How much could we expect to pay for topiary plants? 2Mar 12, 2010 2:46 pm That is a bloody excellent price. These plants don't naturally grow like that and may have taken between 2 and 5 years to grow and constantly clip to get like that. That is a heap of time and labour, water nutrients plus transport at the end. A well made topiary will be around the $100-$150 mark. Avoid choosing topiary that have the stake going up into the head of the plant. The stake should stop below that and only be against the stem. We have some stickies on the topic and in one of them is the links to Homeone member Toparious' Youtube clips from his DVD he produced on doing Topiary called "Easy Topiary" Hi Mofflepop, I would recommend finding a building designer to prepare plans, they should design to your specified budget. The benefit is you can tender the project out… 9 20417 Murraya could be a great option for you. It creates a great tall screening hedge but doesn't drop fruit like lily pilly. The flowers smell divine. 2 10247 7 12005 |
