So beware the garden with pink and red hydrangeas huh? Re: GREEN MULCH - Fu where are you ?! 23Mar 20, 2010 6:18 pm Has anyone in Melbourne had contact with a mulchnet contractor? We haven't had anyone contact us. My DH registered in December and i did a couple of weeks ago. I am about to give up i think. Any other options in Melb for green mulch? we desperately need to put some down as the weeds are taking over the garden beds. Re: GREEN MULCH - Fu where are you ?! 24Mar 20, 2010 6:49 pm As was mentioned earlier aumanns in templestowe, or anyone who sells "bush" mulch. Taylors trees sell it but the minimum is quite a lot. It's on their site. Ring around your local arborists they will all sell it or give it away usually, the problem is they want you to take the whole load which is heaps. Also a lot of councils give it away in melb I think port Phillip is one. Btw green mulch leaves pine park etc for dead it matts together and the birds don't chuck it as much. My place was so bad I had to put netting over the chunky pine bark to stop it being throw everywhere. Now I don't. Cheers B Re: GREEN MULCH - Fu where are you ?! 25Mar 20, 2010 7:00 pm For a normal suburban block 8-10 cubes will be almost completely used. What you don't use, put up a sign out the front saying "free mulch, help yourself" and it will be gone Remember you want it 10cm deep. I say that with recent info about mulches saying otherwise. i can assure that mulch does far more than just keep watering to a minimum. Re: GREEN MULCH - Fu where are you ?! 26Mar 20, 2010 7:09 pm Just had a look at Taylors website and they sell 7m3 for $165 inc delivery. Thats a great price. I'm going to call them tomorrow and Monday and see if they deliver to our side of town (NE burbs) otherwise will try a local tree lopper. thanks Re: GREEN MULCH - Fu where are you ?! 27Mar 20, 2010 8:19 pm A couple of cartons of beer will sway them if they seem iffy. Re: GREEN MULCH - Fu where are you ?! 28Mar 21, 2010 7:10 am Nah Fu, Taylor's actually sell it as part of their lopping business (they are choppers btw not arborist). Most arborist/loppers will happy dump it if its time/cost effective for them as a few of the guys i spoke to told me. If its quicker to dump at your house than the tip or council they will do it. Thats generally why you need to take the whole truck load after a days tree work. (20 cubes usually) Well thats what the arborist in the NE melb say anyway. Re: GREEN MULCH - Fu where are you ?! 30Mar 21, 2010 10:42 am They service the whole of melb so i can't see why not. They probably will deliver when they are working out your way. I have used them to cut a few overhanding branches and took the mulch, I am in the Heidelberg area.. Do ring the other guys in the local paper as they would provide the same sort of service. Re: GREEN MULCH - Fu where are you ?! 32Mar 22, 2010 3:10 pm Could call Bark King and get the leaf mulch, same as arborist green mulch. The are on the web. Re: GREEN MULCH - Fu where are you ?! 33Apr 01, 2010 12:56 am Folks if the whole lot seems like too much, stuff it! Get it anyway. Make use of free advertising to have the remaining mulch taken away for nothing. 1. Put a sign up that says "free mulch, help yourself." 2. Register the excess mulch on mulchnet.com (no matter if it is East, you never know ) 3. Put an add in the free paper like Trading post, or Quokka over here in WA. 4. Ring your friends tell the neighbours. Re: GREEN MULCH - Fu where are you ?! 34Apr 10, 2010 9:43 am Well still no luck with the mulch, we are still waiting to be contacted and haven't been able to get hold of the local tree lopper. I really want some mulch so i can start planting so i might start with sugar cane and then add the green or leaf mulch when i get it. Re: GREEN MULCH - Fu where are you ?! 35Apr 10, 2010 9:48 am If you are in WA and in Stirling council area you can ring the council,. They will deliver free mulch when they do their prunnings etc. Quality varies but it's usually pretty good. Amount you get can be huge or smaller but usually is pretty much a decent amount. It should be freshly shredded. Thick layers of straws this time of year (when it is cooler) can be excellent too. Really builds an incredible soil and ultimately stops your garden encountering all the crappy problems we perceive them to have. Re: GREEN MULCH - Fu where are you ?! 40Apr 14, 2010 1:41 pm Well I'm on the waiting list for 20-25m3 but really it doesn't sound that promising. I questioned how long everyone else had been sitting on the list, whether it would be likely to be 6 months etc and the girl couldn't say. I find it a little strange that they dont know how much movement they have the list. I would quite happily pay double what they are charging but I didn't know whether to say that.
