Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design Re: Cost of landscaping &gardening on new in house Piara wat 5Mar 09, 2010 8:57 am P1T Read about my building experience: http://secondhomebuild.blogspot.com Dale Alcock Homes - 'The Nautilus' in Bletchley Park, Southern River - WA Read about my Clipsal C-BUS Home Automation Project: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=34&t=20854 Re: Cost of landscaping &gardening on new in house Piara wat 9Mar 10, 2010 11:08 pm afropiara yvette Hi Afropiara, my husband and I are in the process of doing our landscaping and were around the corner from piara waters. our block is 510sqm and we smallish size back yard because the block is basically all house. our retic and grass being laid for out the front and back was $3500k and that was cheap. we have a small retaining wall and peddle stool built so we can put a pot plant on it so it's the main feature. the wall cost $700 to lay, bricks were about $800 and then we had it plastered which was $800 and then we painted it ourselves, we have also bought that stone cladding to put on a section of the wall and that was about $1000k. to do just a simple back yard and front yard with retic and you do the work yourself your probably look at $8000-$12000k including retic (installed professionally) lawn, plants (depends what your after) wetter soil mix, chook poo or cow menure to get the soil good and pebbles or paving down the dead side of your house. then you also need to get a plumber out for your retic so they can connect it to the mains, which is about $120 and you also need to have a power point in your garage so your retic box can be plugged in. it's not cheap to do a garden, even a basic one. and oh i forgot to mention you need to get your land levelled which cost us $800 and our land was pretty much flat. thank you yvette that infomation will certainly come in handy in our decision making,I however have to find out what a retaining wall is ,I have heard the word being used quite often . a retaining wall is a wall built to prevent downslope movement, the front of our property is on a small slope and if we didnt put a garden in it would have washed away our plants and soil over time so we built a small retaining wall, less than 1m high so when we walk out of our front door it is completely flat. rather than being on a downward slope. and then where the council verge is thats where its on the downward slope. this is a picture of a retaining wall built out of limestone blocks. http://buybuildingsupplies.com.au/images/norfolk1.jpg we built ours out of internal bricks and then cement rendered it, then painted it to match the house and then put some stone cladding on it to match the feature wall on our home. what you see in the commodores picture i previously posted is what we have and that has a retaining wall in it, its just a small one. if you build a retaining wall more than 1m high you must get a structual engineer to draw up the plans for the wall then you have to submit it to your council for planning approval and then once approved you get a building permit for it which costs a few hundred. that's why we built a small one, so much friggin around! we in the process of finding another house to build so we can sell this one and move on.
