Hi,
I have a nice big pin oak about 60 years old in my backyard, it has a single huge trunk which makes a great tree but creates a big space underneath it. Due to the drought it has had a hard time and is only slowly recovering now due to some tlc. What i would like to do is underplant a small hedge underneath and was thinking of choisya ternata as i have a couple else where in the garden and they grow anywhere in any conditions. I was thinking near the dripline and planting tube stock/cuttings to minimise any damage to the tree and allow me to mulch most of the tree without it looking so drab. Soil prep won't be great as i can't really just start digging up huge chunks of the trees root system. Anyone tried this sort of thing?
