Re: Nara Native Turf - New Turf Variety 22Mar 10, 2010 7:24 pm Grass tree would be the best to ask about this one It is being grown here in WA as well and very well by HG turf but may not be available for sale just yet. This stuff is in early days. Re: Nara Native Turf - New Turf Variety 23Mar 11, 2010 7:58 am BeatrixKiddo When I contacted abulk in syd a few months ago the grower said he could ship to melb. Spoke to Abulk as well, he sounded a bit surprised that Ozbreeds website said that he supplied Nara in Vic... He was very friendly though but said that to send just the 15sqm I need to Melbourne would end up pretty expensive and to possibly contact HG and see if they had another delivery coming down from Sydney and see if they could through some Nara on there as well. Still a bit surprised that someone that works in the industry (the lady at HG) haven't even heard about Nara... as I've known about it since November when I started doing some research about my garden... All seems a bit too complicated in the end though might just go Sir Walter Re: Nara Native Turf - New Turf Variety 24Mar 11, 2010 6:53 pm I had similar issues when I wanted to test EZ, I ended up ordering to a distributor and picking up myself in ringwood. No delivery under 25 sqm from HG I think. Perfect weather coming up to lay turf... Re: Nara Native Turf - New Turf Variety 25Mar 11, 2010 8:17 pm Like I said this stuff is not in full production yet. not everyone at the various mobs may even know if they are participating in trials with it. Re: Nara Native Turf - New Turf Variety 26Mar 18, 2010 10:57 pm This grass is incredibly slow to grow in from planting, roughly 12 months in Qld so its no wonder no-one seems to know when commercial quantities will be available in Vic. It appears to be a fairly hardy grass. Nara has a very similar look and feel to Blue couch but is easier to look after. Re: Nara Native Turf - New Turf Variety 27Apr 19, 2010 4:50 pm Well the grass is laid and looking good so far, 10 days.... Ended up with Sir Walter after all, mainly due to time running out to lay the Nara and to much hassle getting hold of the it (even though I would have liked to try it) Dug in some organic soil activator from the naked gardener, and some spongolite as well, then down with the turf and some powerfeed and seasol on top and now i just need to run with the buckets from the shower and hope for rain. Thanks for all the help and info. This is a great website! Re: Nara Native Turf - New Turf Variety 28Apr 19, 2010 5:30 pm hurdler77 Well the grass is laid and looking good so far, 10 days.... Again copy the image location and paste between the tags Re: Nara Native Turf - New Turf Variety 32Sep 24, 2010 9:00 am Nara Native Turf is now available in Victoria through Austral turf. See Nara Native turf web site at Ozbreed. As Fu said, it is still early days for this turf, but the last 6 months have seen progress. Many have used it, mostly being landscapers. If you search for Nara native turf on a search engine, you will now find more growers now. Compared to Buffalo, Nara will save a lot of mowing. Another point is that in the burbs, Buffalo is usually taken over by Kikuyu after many years. Nara can have Kikuyu sprayed out by professional lawn care companies. If you want a mono culture grass for a long time, both Nara native turf, and Empire Zoysia are they way to go. They are easier to keep clean. Re: Nara Native Turf - New Turf Variety 33Sep 27, 2010 10:36 pm Hey great to see you round again grasstree and thanks for the update Re: Nara Native Turf - New Turf Variety 34Dec 12, 2010 11:19 am Yes you can oversow EZ as well. It's done all the time on commercial projects in colder climates.Austral turf now sells Nara in Melbourne. HG can get it in, but they do not grow it. Austral have supplied a bit in Melbourne, so better to ask them for Nara. Re: Nara Native Turf - New Turf Variety 35Dec 22, 2010 1:22 pm Great Just when I was 99% sold on Palmetto, I noticed this native grass on the Austral website. Why is choosing grass so damn hard? This may sway me one way or the other - which will be softer to sit/play on and less irritating to skin? We also don't have a rainwater tank, so which will hold up better to no manual watering beyond the initial 28 day water exemption? Of course we will be following Fu's tips re: prep work for the turf. Second Time 'Round Re: Nara Native Turf - New Turf Variety 36Dec 22, 2010 6:01 pm With the poo weather we have been having even seeded fescue would survive without additional water... But more seriously both will would be fine once u get them through there first summer, so perhaps lay very late feb, march is usually great weather then it starts to cool and rain a bit just when your exemption runs out. Re: Nara Native Turf - New Turf Variety 37Sep 29, 2011 9:42 am Was walking along the beach on the Sunshine Coast and saw lots of Zoysia macrantha growing on the dunes. As a coastal grass in Australia, why would you use anything else. It loves our coast. Nara Native turf, a Zoysia macrantha is definitely the best choice for coastal situations, and its an Aussie too. Because you guys keep looking at it like it was car brand or something. Pick a buffalo (any) or Zoysia. Then randomly point with your eyes closed and that's ya turf. seriously, with good soil prep, everyone of them will look great and not be what those plastic grass mobs say lawns are. Who the hell says we have to have one turf variety? No one. Plant a couple of different sorts and get the best of each one. Re: Nara Native Turf - New Turf Variety 39Apr 04, 2012 1:15 am Just to revive an old post. Does anyone have any updates on their experience with Nara Turf? My short list is Empire Zoysia and now Nara Zoysia. Next on the list is Saphire and possibly Kakadu? Can anyone confirm that Nara turf is as soft as EZ but has a finer leaf similar to Empress Zoysia? I'd also be interested in summer mowing requirements? I believe Nara is fairly low maintenance. Re: Nara Native Turf - New Turf Variety 40Apr 04, 2012 8:23 am I'm interested in anyone that's got a Nara lawn as well (photos please). D/h & I drove from the Gold Coast to the Sunshine Coast where there is a company that sells Nara & has it on display (along with other lawn varieties). When we got there, most of the samples on display did not have a sign saying what they were, the office was empty & no-one answered my call. Still waiting for them to get back to me. Very frustrating. From what I've gathered during my research, Empress Zoysia & Nara Zoysia are one in the same. It supposedly has a finer leaf than the Empire Zoysia, but just how fine is yet to be determined (hopefully, someone out there who's got it can clarify).
