Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Feb 18, 2010 3:02 pm Hi,
I'm preparing to lay Palmetto or SW - which ever is cheapest on the day. So far I've sprayed current Kikuyu grass with Glygco360, 7 days later it's pretty well all dead. I plan to get the best organic soil I can find, I think it'll be 30 to 50mm worth? and I'll hire a rotary hoe or cultivator and mix it all in. The question is should I physically remove the dead kik., which I will need to manually pluck out - there's 270m2 worth! Or should I just leave it in place and plow through it all with the hoe? Many thanks. (Edit, fixed some unfortunate spelling errors). Re: Remove dead kik or just blow through it with cultivator? 2Feb 18, 2010 4:39 pm Personally i would remove, hire a turf cutter or rotary hoe and rake out Landscape Design & Construction http://cherub.squarespace.com/ Re: Remove dead kik or just blow through it with cultivator? 3Feb 18, 2010 10:56 pm I suggest waiting a bit longer and see if it is really dead. Like polking something with a stick, you want to make sure first If it is dead it is going to make excellent organic material I trust you have read my posts on how to actually kill turf with round up? Re: Remove dead kik or just plow through it with cultivator? 4Feb 27, 2010 10:28 am One spray is usually not enough to kill Kikuyu. I would water the dead turf for about 4 to 6 weeks to see if some comes up. When it does spray it again. I agree with Fu, rotary hoe it in. Question 1) Some weeds did survive, they look like lettuce and grow one yellow flower on top about once a year with pretty very long "pencil" like root. I'd like to know the name of this weed (so I can track down a better spray). Do I need pics or can anyone identify it based on that info? Q2) Nothing new seems to be growing where the kik was, it seems to be getting in the way but new grass shoots and weeds are popping up on fresh soil I exposed after clearing away building junk. This new stuff is about 2 to 3 cm high and I plan to rotary hoe probably the weekend after next and bring in new soil and turf. What should I do about this new growth? More glypho, something else, just rotary hoe ? ??? Q3) Anyone know a good Palmetto / SW seller, probably from Windsor/Sydney willing to deliver to Wollongong. Please help and thanks again in advance Cheers. Re: Remove dead kik or just plow through it with cultivator? 6Mar 19, 2010 9:28 pm Bugger wasting your hard eared coin on more weed sprays. Look if you are confident it's dead then go for it. The other junk popping up, just dig the lot through. It won't come back, it will rot into the soil and add to the organic matter in there Re: Remove dead kik or just plow through it with cultivator? 7Mar 19, 2010 9:29 pm Oh and as for where to get the turf, Grass tree will tell you to use Palmetto, a former member will tell you to use Sir Walter. Me?, well I suggest using Empire way over and above the others mentioned grows nice and slow so that is less mowing and I find it easier than the others to keep green in winter Empire Zoysia It craps on the others How do you remove one of these ceiling air con vents?
