Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Feb 15, 2010 12:22 pm Hi, Just wanted to know if anyone has landscaping included in the land cost? They have given me $3000 to spend. I was thinking of doing most of the front garden (apart from the lawn) before they come to do it so i can send them to the back of the house, do you think they will do that? And what does $3000 REALLY get you? Pictures and/or layouts (I dont know where to start!) are encouraged Garden - viewtopic.php?f=19&t=44214&p=670323#p670323 Decorating - viewtopic.php?f=6&t=47218&p=715743#p715743 Re: H&L Package - Landscaping - What do you get? 2Feb 15, 2010 9:34 pm 3 large will get you some couch lawn, a cheap retic controller, pop up sprinklers that mist water, a few cordylines and flaxes and some black mulch with minimal to no soil prep. The house and land package is all about getting more presentable homes straight away. So therefore the front is the focus. No harm in asking about the back. They will be there for the day. and the retic guys for a day also. Make sure they include a line to the back for later. They usually do it anyway. Ask about upgrading the sprinklers to rainbird gear driven ones for the lawn or MP rotators. You can use less spray heads but they cost a bit extra. Very efficient waterwise applications of water. You won't get so much on the road They should use the Netafim subsurface in the beds. Instant and presentable for the short term which suits the developers just fine. The long term effects of this approach will be felt by the greater city for many many years. Your best bet is to spend the money on the soil, get some extra delivered. Look seriously at the no lawn verges thread for ideas that don't have lawns. See if you can tee up some green mulch for the garden beds after they have been. Get George Lulfitz's book "A new image for WA plants" http://www.lullfitz.com.au/ This will get the ideas flowing http://www.lullfitz.com.au/orders.php By the way folks, George Lufitz is one of Australia's most knowledgeable on WA plants. He is also partly and in some cases fully responsible for bringing many plants out of the bush and into Australian gardens. many east coasters would have no idea of many common plants sold in nurseries came from discoveries this man had made during his travels around WA looking for new things Have a squiz here as well. http://www.lullfitz.com.au/orders.php Re: H&L Package - Landscaping - What do you get? 3Feb 16, 2010 4:22 pm Thanks Fu! I'd love to see these have a higher standard and be inspected but costs would also increase. Go to one of these and then ask some questions http://www.greatgardens.info/events.php Free and will help you get your head around what can possibly be a huge expense over the years (your garden) and avoid so many hassles The H+LP guys will need to let you know who the irrigation contractor is and then liaise with them directly about upgrades to water efficient gear drives and a good controller that doesn't require a science degree to set or use and has a water budget function Hunter XC You will thank me in a few years Get it right the first time or spend it all again in the near future. Re: H&L Package - Landscaping - What do you get? 5Feb 17, 2010 11:14 am Well, hopefully my SS will let me prep before so i can have a nice garden that i can be proud of! Lucky my mum gave me a green thumb! Already got some plants to move. Like my Frangipani tree, Agapanthas and some hedge (cant remember what type it is). All I have to do is find a nice tree, i was thinking tipuana but they have a few sprouting problems and like to distroy pavers. Whats the normal ratio of grass and plants nowdays Fu? That surrounded around the boundaries with taller shrubs and open areas in between with small trees. The Tipuanas here in WA are not invasive like over east. I have not ever encountered suckers but then again any tree can do that when the roots are damaged. Have a search on small trees or trees and my user name and you will find heaps of ideas. Hmmm, I have checked your past posts and it seems that you are in NSW, not WA as I had thought. It pays to show your State in your avatar. Retaining wall regulations… 5 7865 Hi, you've probably already resolved this, however, Commbank will probably pay the funds to you after you send evidence the work is done regardless the change in the quotes. 1 35331 Ideally you would engage a landscaper to give you some insight what they may need in the space to make your vision come to life… 1 13645 |
