Only problem is that they are in Melbourne. Anyone know of any good landscapers in Sydney? Easy just check the sticky at the top of this forum for how to choose a landscaper Re: The transformation is done! FINAL PICS PAGE 10 222Apr 12, 2010 10:35 am kek Thanks again to you and the other guys - we could never have done anything like this ourselves and it turned out to be a painless process. Definitely worth every cent. I was out there this morning having my coffee, and this afternoon playing with more plants. Tonight it's BBQ time once more. Psst, everyone: book him in for your landscaping work before he gets too busy to fit you in until 2015.... Thank god I found this thread. Finding someone to help us with a retaining wall from start to finish has been a nightmare so far. We've contacted 3 people a few times and have never had phone calls returned even though promised. The retaining wall business must be a busy one...haha. Called Rod and look forward to him helping us through the process of getting our retaining wall done. I hope the job is something he can do. Thanks Kek for sharing Planned Landscape contact details. You have no idea how stressed we were in trying to find someone. Rod and his team have done an absolutely amazing job on your place!!! Life is; then you tell yourself a story. Re: The transformation is done! FINAL PICS PAGE 10 223Apr 12, 2010 8:52 pm mikkyG Kek, what size/thickness were those tiles? 500 x 20? Sorry mikkyG, I missed this until just now.... Um. Good question I'd guess 20mm, but I haven't measured them. Definitely 500 x 500 though. oze Thank god I found this thread. FINAL PICS PAGE 10 224May 08, 2010 9:06 am OMG that is stunning Kek! congratulations on such a beautiful, beautiful home and garden Kylie handover happened 15/6/09...love living on an acre but still so much to do! Re: The transformation is done! FINAL PICS PAGE 10 225May 08, 2010 10:20 am Thanks, kyiee. The home part is still a work in progress..... the furniture and decorating budget has all been spent on the landscaping. So it might be a while before I feel like the inside is finished. Love the outside though. I'm off outside to stain windows, then it's Seasol/molasses time. Re: The transformation is done! FINAL PICS PAGE 10 226May 15, 2010 10:27 am Quick update: Everything is growing like the clappers at the moment. We go outside and literally go --> at the amount of growth on some things. The feijoas don't seem to have minded the severe pruning I gave them when I planted and are now covered in new leaves. The bamboos have gone nuts and are waving their little hands above the top of our 1.8m fences already. The succulents are amazing - the echeverias have doubled in size, and all the little tiny cuttings I struck have taken off. The cannas look like they're on steroids and the herbs are very, very happy. Yesterday I planted another 15 plants (Mothers day present), and got very excited at the number of worms I unearthed. The sugarcane mulch, molasses, Seasol etc must be working....and I'm sure the steady rainfall we've been getting is helping too. The citrus aren't doing much yet, but perhaps they're waiting till Spring to impress me. Out the front, everything is growing like mad too. I cut back the five or so leucophyta brownii only about three weeks ago because they'd gone completely feral, and already they're sprouting new growth. The Waterhousia that I was so disappointed in when I saw it because it was literally only knee-high , is now as tall as me. That's only since March 2009.... I discovered the reason why I'd lost most of the plants alongside the driveway. I bought some new ones to put in and started to dig holes for them. It went like this: 2-3cm topsoil (courtesy of the free landscaping package) 20-25cm brickie's sand Black clay (natural soil around here) mixed with rubble (builder's debris) and various other soil types (fill) Our builder's site clean involved spreading a huge pile of leftover brickie's sand all around the house. Our free landscaping involved dumping a thin layer of topsoil over that, then adding mulch. *sigh* I dug the planting holes wider than needed, removed most of the sand and added some soil I'd removed from other parts of the garden while planting, plus some Naked Farmer. Let's hope the new plants are happier than the old ones.... I'll post some progress photos in the next few weeks. Maybe sooner. I love before/after pics. Why can't it be Spring already? Re: The transformation is done! 227May 17, 2010 10:41 pm Glad to hear your plants are going burko, I was wondering how they were coming along! Re: The transformation is done! 228May 18, 2010 5:01 pm Kek, Envy envy and envy It was painful to watch them plants grow. Sometimes I dreamed they were a giant the other day Some of my plants had good growth since planting, the Pittos didn't look so leggy as the beginning and were much bushier, thanks Fu for teaching me to prune. However, some plants like Silver bush and Hebe, they didn't seem like too much differences in a month or two. Are their growth mainly in spring, summer? Oh by the way, while seasol+ powerfeed were done in fortnights. How often should I use molasses, add manures? U must be over the moon for having a feature in the web. U should save that html and keep it Thanks. Re: The transformation is done! 229May 18, 2010 5:05 pm Good work kek was looking at our plants this week...one year on...and they are huge, it's such a surprise to realise how big they are...you wait, you'll be in a year. Photos when you're ready please Re: The transformation is done! 230May 19, 2010 8:25 am Meh. I've been trying to post some photos, but first Photobucket didn't want to play nice, and then we've had internet dramas for days. I'm using the wireless modem at the moment, can't get anything via our network this morning. Maybe photos might happen next week.... Nott, some plants don't like the heat, and others don't grow much in the cold weather. Wait till Spring and see what they do. You might be surprised with lots of new growth. As for the Seasol/molasses etc regime, I'm no expert, but I've slowed my routine a bit for now, mainly because it's cold and dark outside so much of the time. So I'm watering in Seasol/Powerfeed every four weeks and molasses every 2 months. Come Spring, I'll go back to fortnightly S/P and probably stick with the 2-monthly applications of molasses. And of course, top up with mulch. If you take photos every few months, you should see some growth. It's hard to notice when you're looking every day. Re: The transformation is done! 231May 19, 2010 8:31 am Hold on, here's a quickie. These are since March, remember.... Herbs. It was a bit late to be planting the sweet basil, it doesn't like the cold at all. Everything else is happy, happy, happy. Anyway, I was wondering if you could post some close(r)-up pics of your paving (s/stone and other, if you have any other type ...). I'd like to see the "grout" ( ) lines, and if you have any step-down areas, especially with those bullnose ends ... If you can, some time, no rush ... You didn't have any concreted surfaces here (except for driveway), did you ... it was all done on sand beds? My signature is distracting people from my wise posts ... Maybe from June, I should mark on the calendar for a feeding day for ALL the plants. If you take photos every few months, you should see some growth. It's hard to notice when you're looking every day. [/quote] U must have read my mind. I really used to take a peek outside the living area or bedrm and wandered why my plants look the same, while when I walked pass others' house, amused at how their plants grew up so quickly. My nandinas also turned red last month, one seemed growing bigger, but looked really leggy instead of bushy; others looked like the same size as b4. Does urs look leggy? Re: The transformation is done! 235May 19, 2010 6:28 pm Nott My nandinas also turned red last month, one seemed growing bigger, but looked really leggy instead of bushy; others looked like the same size as b4. Does urs look leggy? Not really leggy, although the new growth was initially quite long and fine, but it's thickening up now. If they're a bit straggly-looking, give them a light prune, maybe? That's my solution to most things. Lex Anyway, I was wondering if you could post some close(r)-up pics of your paving (s/stone and other, if you have any other type ...). You didn't have any concreted surfaces here (except for driveway), did you ... it was all done on sand beds? No step-down areas, we're nice and flat here , so the only bullnose pavers are along the top of the planter box There is concrete under the sandstone. The alfresco room forms part of the house slab, so extra concrete was needed for the rest of the paved area to make it all nice and level and stop it moving (or cracking along the join). The new slab was tied into the existing one with reo rods for extra stability. The charcoal concrete pavers at the back are just laid into a mortar base though, same as the step stone ones. I'll hunt out some paver photos later. I remember reading somewhere that you used a sealer first and then the paint is the correct? If you can please let me know the paint and sealer that would be great. Yours look so good and I saw the same thing already painted for a HUGE price, so I'm hoping to do my own Bek I'm back Re: The transformation is done! 238May 31, 2010 8:26 am No worries, bek.... The sealer is this one: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Bondall pot and ornament sealer. I used two coats, from memory, and did both inside and out. Then the paint is just exterior paint; I used Wattyl Solaguard, because I already had some, but any brand will do. Two coats of that as well.
