Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design Re: The transformation is done! 242Jul 17, 2010 11:21 am I just found this thread (although I'd already had a decent stalk of the blog! ). Looks absolutely fantastic kek! Lots of inspiration for me! Do you have any updated pics of the plant bed under the window? I'm looking at doing something similar under our window, but our planter bed will be L shaped as we have a window on the adjoining wall (where yours is blank). The extension of the paving makes the whole area look amazingly big, defintely the way to go for this house plan.... I know you're a few years off this yet , but I'm thinking it's such a great place for grandkiddies to play on trikes, etc. Or any littlies that come to visit. (I have nieces and nephews coming soon I think, they are trying ) Our budget is until I go back to work. So ours may be done in stages. I think our main priority would be to get the concrete done and live with that for a while. If you don't mind me asking, do you have a breakdown of costs to show how much the concreting for under the pavers cost? Just to get an idea. Great planning kek, and great work from Planned Landscapes. I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: The transformation is done! 243Jul 17, 2010 11:44 am Thanks Joles. The bed under the window looks a bit crap at the moment, since cannas go quite ratty in winter. But they've put on heaps of growth and will smarten up their act when the weather warms up. This was taken in May: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ I want to add some more plants, but I'm not sure what as yet. Maybe some type of Lomandra. It can't be anything too tall; I don't want to block any of the light from the dining room. It's so warm sitting there on sunny mornings like today: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: The transformation is done! 244Jul 27, 2010 6:46 pm Just checking out your landscaper's wesbite... I'm going to give Rod a call in the next week or so to get some quotes on our little baby retaining wall and some paving (ditched the idea of decking)... Hey Erin, just interested to know why you have ditched the decking idea? We have landscaped plans for the garden however it was a bit of a fight between the man and I as to how much grass/decking/paving etc we'll be having. We have gone with paving decking and grass. Can always change it when we actually do it all but I think a bit of decking if done right can actually look rather nice. For the paving we are going with different sized pavers. Not sure on colour/texture etc as yet. Re: The transformation is done! 248Oct 10, 2010 8:27 pm So fancypants! You've done well Looks like your own little piece of tropical paradise. Re: The transformation is done! 250Oct 11, 2010 6:44 pm Fancypants.... We ate dinner outside tonight, with the sound of trickling water in the background. Lovely. It would have been very Zen, if not for the neighbour's kids yelling and the thud of a footy being kicked. Why can't those pests go inside and play on the computer like normal kids? Re: The transformation is done! 252Oct 12, 2010 6:34 pm sveta Beautiful backyard kek...G8 inspiration for others..wonder how much it will cost for something similiar in perth That depends on how much of it you're prepared to DIY. We left the big jobs to the pros, but did all the planting and have been adding lots of small finishing touches. If you're handy and have the time, you could build planters and lay paving yourselves and save quite a bit. It's worth getting quotes from a few landscapers anyway - you never know until you ask. Your block seems to be very flat, so there must be a good drainage system somehwere Do you have a water tank? And where does your stormwater go (from the roof / roof gutters)? Sorry Lex, haven't looked back in here for a while - been too busy enjoying the serenity outdoors. The block is almost flat, but slopes ever so slightly from back to front. The stormwater pipes run alongside the house on the al fresco side to the discharge point at the front - they're partly under the planter box footings in one spot - let's hope we never have a major blockage that can't be cleared with a camera and plumber's snake thingy. The paving has been laid with a slight fall from the al fresco room towards the planters, and then towards the front of the house, so we never have water pooling anywhere, even with the monster rains we've had this year. It just runs off onto the utility area, which is covered in toppings. Those drain really well, no need for drainage pits and pipes, etc. Our water tank only flushes the toilets; we don't have one for the garden. Eventually, we'll install a watering system of some kind, but I've only had to water once or twice since about April, thanks to the big wet.
