My dream: To plant plants (not trees, but shrubs/flowers/tall grasses/etc) between the fence and retaining and in our front yard (as it's going to mostly be limestone = no watering) that don't need to be watered at all - they get enough water from natural rains and maybe need a hose after we have a few 40 deg days in a row. That way, we save water, only need to retic the backyard where we are having grass and lots of vegie patches and don't need to somehow get retic up the retaining (already built).
Is this a dream or real? What plants exist out there that can do this? I've talked to people before who say "Natives" but I'm doubting that as I see the council watering the kangaroo paws and bottlebrush tress on the verges near us (and have retic installed to do this!). And my impression of waterwise plants means that they still need to be watered regularly, just less than other types of plants. I don't want just a waterwise plant, but a waterless plant.
Feel free to pop my bubble if I'm dreaming...
