Re: Please show your front garden. 4Jan 31, 2010 10:55 am Nice, Onc... Beans, roughly how much space do you have to work with? I don't imagine you have as much room as Onc. Re: Please show your front garden. 5Jan 31, 2010 1:37 pm Thanks for the pics Onc However we don't have as much space to work with as you (I wish!). We have the standard frontage - 5m to the footpath. Love the look of your garden kek Am interested in how people have used decking in their front garden and how many steps they have, how big you have made the deck, how easy it is to use with a pram, maintenance, etc. Thanks Re: Please show your front garden. 6Jan 31, 2010 2:02 pm beans Am interested in how people have used decking in their front garden and how many steps they have, how big you have made the deck, how easy it is to use with a pram, maintenance, etc. Thanks Our deck is just the portico area, approximately 2m x 2m, plus a stepped-down platform in front of it, which is slightly smaller (maybe 1m deep by 1.5m wide? ). We don't have prams to worry about, but I don't think you'd want to have too many steps, or make them very high if you're going to be driving the pram up and down them frequently. Maintenance isn't a big deal if you use premium products. We've recently cleaned and re-coated our decking, so it looks like being a yearly job. We use the Intergrain range of products, and they are the bomb! Using a lambswool pad appplicator on a pole, it takes no time at all. I've seen some lovely front yards with decking paths, but the slope of your block will dictate whether you need a lot of steps, or whether you can keep it all one level. This is our decked portico: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ There's a third section behind the column, that's a small step down from the main area, and that's level with the driveway. This looks like a side yard, but it's a nice idea with the cutouts for planting: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ A nice level area: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Have a look at some landscapers' websites for ideas. Re: Please show your front garden. 7Jan 31, 2010 5:27 pm Thank you so much for your quick reply Kek. Those decks look wonderful. Was wondering if you could recommend any landscaping websites? Has anybody used tiles/paved the front portico instead of decking? Thanks. Re: Please show your front garden. 8Jan 31, 2010 5:50 pm Here is our front yard, it is just simple pebbles and shrubs, but I think will look good as shrubs grow, Im not a fan of ornate paveing features etc - let the plants do the talking Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ PS: yes, we have tiles on our front porch. Re: Please show your front garden. 9Jan 31, 2010 6:02 pm Landscapers? There are too many to name... start with some of the links at the top of this forum. Then try Google for "Landscapers decking", "decking paths" or something similar. I usually click on the "images" link at the top of the search results page first up and see what I can find there. Photo galleries on landscapers' sites are good sources too - either the direct search or the images will take you there. It's fun to trawl around the net and get ideas. Careful though, you can lose days and you might start to get grandiose ideas.
