Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Jan 24, 2010 8:16 am We are going to have to have our tiered retaining wall engineered. We also have some man holes over an easement that will need to be lowered. I'm kind of at a bit of a loss as to who I can go to for some advice on this, as we would like to know how much it is all going to cost. I've been told that we are going to need to get an engineer on board to design the wall, but once it has been designed, are we able to do the work ourselves? My other problem, is that I have searched the web and yellow pages for engineers in Adelaide, however, I've really only come up with the BIG engineering companies - not sure they'd want to take on my small retaining wall! I'm really hoping that the engineering part isn't going to cost us ridiculous amounts, as well as the actual lowering of the manholes. Has anyone in Adelaide been in the same sort of situation? Any suggestions for engineers? Anyone lowered manholes before? I think I've been rambling, but have so many thoughts and questions running through my head - hope someone can clear SOMETHING up for me!!! Here's a pic of what our wall will need to look like Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: Engineering a retaining wall (Adelaide) 2Jan 24, 2010 9:48 am You will need to find out how deep the access chambers are for a start... they will be servicing some sewer or stormwater utilities which you will be reducing the 'cover' on. There will be a minimuim cover spec for the utilities which may detemine your level constraints. First step - find out what you are / are not allowed to do in an easement - refer to your title for the easement details and then talk to a town planner about it. Start wilth city council, but be prepared to go to a private one if they are non commital. If you determine that you are able to do earthworks in the easement as long as you comply to required specs, you can move onto the next step. Ring the utility provider and try to obtain the construction specs for the services. You can do a fair bit of the legwork your self (ringing around) or you can engage an engineer to do it for you, they will charge for it though. There will be smaller ones catering for your job in Adelaide, I just did a search on yellow and got 158 results. You want a civil engineer from a small firm, word of mouth recommendations are best. The engineer will probably want to project manage it all for you, but you may be able to find one that will let you co-ordinate stuff yourself if you want to go that way. Due to the nature of what you are trying to, there will be a lot of costs involved - for example when it is all done the access chambers will require resurvey and the as-constructed data for the utililities will need to be updated in the databases. Before you start you will probably need to get drawings submitted to the utility provider for approval as well. Good luck. btw this mob look about the right size for an engineer for you http://www.yellowpages.com.au/sa/dulwic ... sting.html search engineers - consulting, yellow pages online Thank you again Simeon.. I will call my certifier for that. Have a good day 4 5196 Assuming you've modelled the TB8, TB10, TB12, TB2 & J1 joists/LVLs there, it appears as per drawing to me.
