Fungal diseases, viral diseases. Actually a mate of mine was telling me about a thing with yuccas abd how they get this black spot thing. Hmmm might give him a call it can also be caused by the damage created after hail. They normally are white in colour though. hhmmm hang on Re: Sick Plants Fu :( 3Jan 22, 2010 2:39 pm OK, here's the go you guys think I know some stuff! man This guy just has so much more in his head *Cheers mate * It is something that is emerging as a problem more and more often around Australia. It tends not to happen much here in WA but what is being found now is that as new stock is coming through from the east it is popping up more and more in wholesale nurseries. Stocks propagated here in WA from WA stock are free of it. As I mentioned as a possible cause was a bacterial disease. bacterial leaf spot. Now these are extremely hard to treat because you can't get antibiotics for plants. So lets work on my methods of less fertilisers, more organics and that will thicken the cells in the leaf a little and toughen them up better. Some success has been had with copper based fungicides on the foliage. It is seasonal as well. It needs warmth but also moisture. That is just what you have in Sydney right now. Those spots will not go. They are there for good. The new growth though will come through nice once the conditions pass which may last for 3 months or so for you. I'd say you guys are going to need to start living with it Re: Sick Plants Fu :( 4Jan 22, 2010 3:03 pm Holy Hell do we have moisture and heat, do we WHAT and....and... we got all our plants from a wholesale nursery funny thing is, it is only on those plants near The General, no others. Thanks Fu and thank your mate for me too I shall get right on to some of that stuff you mentioned Would it help the plants if we took the leaves off the bottom of the stem? Re: Sick Plants Fu :( 6Jan 26, 2010 10:53 am Yeah, if you can, pluck them off and chuck in the bin in this case Murraya could be a great option for you. It creates a great tall screening hedge but doesn't drop fruit like lily pilly. The flowers smell divine. 2 7962 |
