Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Jan 17, 2010 2:31 pm So in a bid to 'brighten up' our current backyard, which currently looks very boring now, i'd like to raise the perimeter area with retaining walls. I am quite handy and so would like to DIY with one of those DIY systems. This would probably save a huge chunk on installation costs. I have a few questions though. My pricing has been $26.00 per post - for 45mm wall height $14.00 per panel - 1170mm Does this sound reasonable? Secondly, seeing that it will be up against a fence, and our house is slightly above the other house already, which has over the years, been causing the fence to slowly bend to the neighbours house. Would putting a retaining wall up against that fence, at 45mm wall height make a big difference? Is there a way I can put a sort of retainig wall against the fence to not put added pressure on the fence? I obviously would not want to spend too much money on this though, what are my options? Has anyone done a DIY system before, and how did they find it? What are usually the installation charges if I were to get someone else to do it. Any other thoughts/ideas/suggestions would be appreciated Regards Re: Retaining Walls 2Jan 23, 2010 7:58 am My pricing has been $26.00 per post - for 45mm wall height $14.00 per panel - 1170mm Does this sound reasonable? A bit unclear, need more info. So this sounds like a timber retaining wall? And the cost could depend on your location (which is obviously unknown to the reader). And did you really mean 45mm wall height?? Not 45 cm? So this wall will come about 45mm/cm up the height of the fence and will be built so that the soil it will contain touches the fence?? (I personally would never even think about doing that.) And have you talked to your neighbour about your plans? My signature is distracting people from my wise posts ... Render your bathroom walls, two opinions versus the one, makes you wonder. 3 6064 The spacing of the studs looks pretty large especially for a load bearing wall. 3 11122 Nope, only on the inside, I've literally has my ears to the brick outside and can't hear anything. I can sort of 'reset' the noise by pressing firmly on the studs. This… 10 11785 |
