Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Jan 15, 2010 4:03 pm I have a couch lawn which I have been "converting" to buffalo by planting in buffalo runners. The buffalo dominates the couch and I have vast areas which appear to be just buffalo now. I was wondering if I could introduce some EZ, or would the buffalo still dominate everything ? I think the buffalo is either sir walter or palmetto. (It is not too coarse) cheers Re: Could EZ be "grown through" a buffalo / couch lawn 2Jan 15, 2010 8:31 pm You can try, but I think you'll find the SW/pal will dominate as the EZ is fine and not as shade tolerant as the buffalos. A good test to see which is the hardier, just keep it away from unprotected garden edges. Re: Could EZ be "grown through" a buffalo / couch lawn 4Jan 16, 2010 12:47 pm It can be if you never edge it. It grows so slow that it easy to keep under control, not like couch which will do your head in. Even if an edge is protected it will still need proper edging but any turf should because it will look schmiko Re: Could EZ be "grown through" a buffalo / couch lawn 5Jan 18, 2010 9:54 pm What stops EZ (at a slower rate) going under garden egdes like couch? Re: Could EZ be "grown through" a buffalo / couch lawn 6Jan 18, 2010 10:52 pm A proper edger. I haven't found EZ to grow anywhere as vigorous as couch. couch can go far far deeper. The atom is an excellent edger for the average person. Re: Could EZ be "grown through" a buffalo / couch lawn 7Jan 19, 2010 8:26 am Do the ol skool half moon edgers work alright? I have rock edging so an atom would be a little akward I would think considering there isn't any straight edges. Don't mind the work either. Re: Could EZ be "grown through" a buffalo / couch lawn 8Jan 19, 2010 4:50 pm Fu, some extracts from Ozbreeds web; Zoysia grass also has a deep root •Drought tolerant due to deep root system Root Structure Fine, deep, massive, rhizomes spread underground Sounds like couch to me, might need more than an atom if they go more than 100mm? Re: Could EZ be "grown through" a buffalo / couch lawn 9Jan 19, 2010 9:56 pm yeah, yeah but it isn't couch and that's that. If it were an uncontrollable menace, I wouldn't use it. It doesn't go anywhere the depths of couch. And the difference in runner width is nothing like each other in comparison. EZ has a wider leaf than couch and responds much better to round up than couch if ever needed due to poorly maintained turf edges. A heap easier to get out of garden beds. heaps! yep sounds good make the footing bigger to to allow for the pipe in the middle 3 7320 Hi When it rains in a particular direction water comes through the security door.
