Yes Michelle, it is really tough in the heat. I sometimes count the minutes, although I love it, the humidity kills me. Sometimes it makes me want to quit altogether. I have a few waterfront homes with gardens that I maintain and although the view is spectacular I rarely have time to look up. Sometimes I have to take a minute though... I still ache too, it'll get easier...well maybe, sort of... there will be less weeds next time. I promise. www.themaxbuild.blogspot.com forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=20717&start=300 www.leahspaperpassion.blogspot.com Re: Gardening job…whoo hoo 23Jan 29, 2010 5:12 pm Themax…..the weeds are endless as so are the gardens. The last gardener they had left one day and never came back. So for 6 weeks the gardens have been un kept. My wrists are the worst. (this is more like envy rather than question) ... I think being outside, and even at a much younger age, is really good for our bones. The sun (in the "good" hours) will be really beneficial (vit D). I had weird pain in knees and even ankles for quite a long time and doctors didn't know why ("it's stress" - their typical guess). Then I saw a great lady doctor and without any hope just mentioned it along the way. She ordered a simple blood test - showed very low vit D. I was very rarely outside, almost no sun ( I know). So, some simple vit D tablets, lots of activity and exposure to sun early mornings and evenings (during walks ) and after 3-6 months I gradually lost the pain. Now I'm having it again as I've gone back to low activity (and you can see why ) - so I know what do I have to do. So yeah, that is a great job, beats sitting under the mercy of a/con for me. Interesting!!! I had blood tests done and it showed a severely low Vit D level and I am now on tablets etc and told to go out in the sun at either end of the day with no sleeves or sunscreen on (which is weird!!) but I wonder if that explains my aches etc! Here's something funny Michelle...one of my lovely ladies is 101 this year. I was doing some work for her and then she came out and asked me if I would mind removing a whole garden bed of succulents and Dianella's, It's too messy she said....I would like.... PETUNIAS!!. I hadn't planned (time wise) on replacing it all on that day, so I said I can come back next week with the Petunias and do it all for you. She laughed and said " I would really love for you to do it today" then she laughed again and said "I might be dead next week" laugh, laugh. After my shock and horror I realised that at 101 there is no time like the present. So she helped me plant the Petunias and the smile on her face was as beautiful as those damn flowers. Oh tears me up to think about it. Every time I go there I worry that she won't be there. She's so inspirational. Very special lady. www.themaxbuild.blogspot.com forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=20717&start=300 www.leahspaperpassion.blogspot.com Re: Gardening job…whoo hoo 28Jan 29, 2010 10:14 pm Wow, that's a good reminder how uncertain and fragile everything is and a lovely story . So nice of you that you stayed right then and made her so happy !!! It's very touchy ... Yes, Lisanne, and that's exactly right - early morning and late evening, with no sleeves and no long pants and no sunscreen, so we get the sun onto the skin. And you can google it of course (I did) and it all fell together perfectly - the physical symptoms and my lifestyle and the blood test. The other benefit obviously is the amazing effect of walking (I usually walk fast; I don't force myself to jog (just a little) as it can get tough on the knees afterwards ). Oh yeah, the other symptom (actually I noticed that first) is swollen or jelly knees after a specific regime - I used to walk (very fast) to catch transport, then sit for the long drive (about 45 min+), and when I get up and start walking to work, my knees just wobble and I feel the big ball of jelly in them. Right now I feel the gnawing "pain" in left knee and righ ankle ... geez I sound like the old aunties ... need to buy that Ostelin again ... and yeah, get some Ca into yoour diet if it's also deficient. Ah, I could go on about this and some other related stuff for a while ... My signature is distracting people from my wise posts ...
