Ooooooh, I can't come up with a softer way of asking how to *kill* a tree. As if that would make any difference
Anyway, to make way for the new house, we had to remove a beautiful mature absolutely drop dead gorgeous liquidambar (our "gentle giant") .
Not only the tree was cut, but they also ground the stump and the top part of the roots.
That act of cruelty happened in September.
Yesterday I noticed a bunch of shoots (beautiful new branches) about 1/2 m high, as well as 1 or 2 individual new branches, scattered about 1/2 - 1 m from where the trunk was.
We don't want a new tree coming from the remnants of the old one (and where it won't be suitable in the garden), so - how do we prevent it from growing?
I heard that councils use some kind of "poison" - is that accessible to normal people and what does it do?
And there - I have now officially been marked as a tree killer
