I have approximately a one metre wide strip between the house and a concrete driveway that runs parallel to the property. At the moment, the only thing between the two is my colourbond fence and all that the neighbour and I are planning to do is to place pebbles/stones along the strip to a depth of about 100mm. The ground is predominantly clay and there are no stormwater pipes nearby, plus the neighbour has a few electrical conduits running along his side of the fence (not sure how deep). Given that the colourbond fence posts are encased in concrete, if I grade the level of the clay so that water will naturally flow onto my side of the fence but relatively close to the fence itself, do I need to install drainage? Even with a torrential downpour (which we had a couple of days ago), the most water I could see pooling was maybe 10mm deep. Will pooling water eventually seep through the concrete and eat away at the fence posts? While I know the ideal solution is to install drainage, I know the effort required given that I will be doing this by hand and that I'll need to dig a drainage pit at some point...hence the preference would be not to.
