Re: New garden feature- 85Apr 12, 2011 9:10 pm Main part of the drive way was done today. We still need the 2nd second section done but it will have to wait for now as we are out of $. We used road base for the driveway. We will be getting some large pieces for the rest of the driveway area ( additional parking area) and Dh has now decided we might use it as a ground cover instead of additional paving for the entire section around the laundry side of the house. ( An area of approx 80m2.) We'll get paths done in paving and then put the crushed blue metal around it. The alfresco and future patio and entertaining area will still be completely paved however. As will the front porch and path and area to the driveway. Pictures tomorrow of the drive when it's light. I guess that means we'll have to finally agree on a proper post box once that happens. I've dug up carrots, pulled up my tomato bushes. collected a few mini red capsicum which have been used in cooking. I've planted out garlic and dug in new stakes and snow peas. We've been investigating adding a front gate near the garage and at this stage we have started considering pool gate type fencing as it would be the lightest option. Had a win last weekend as I dicsovered one of the pool and spa companies in Bunbury stocked zeolite as a filter medium for some of their pool filters( zeobrite) so was able to get 2 15 kg bags. Wednesday we went and purchased half a tray of seedlings for a hedge. We now have some people who have bought the property 2 from us and want to get a hedge started. The area is so rocky that the only way to do this is to buy small tube stock and let it find it's own way through the rock. I've also started on some chicken wire to cover over the post and rail fencing so try and keep the rabbits out. It's hard going. My fingers are soft and they get very sore wiring up the 2 fences with wire. I've gt at least 70 more metres to go. I hope they don;t come exploring tonight . My back is sore and I need to stop. Today. June 5th 2011. Planted 34 Pincushion Hakea's. HUbby spent approx 3 hours digging wiht a crowbar and was able to get holes large enough to plant the tray stock we purchased during the week. So now we have a hedge planted. One plant every 1.5 m. The last 3rd became steadily more and more rocky as you can see. I love those, one of my all-time favourite plants! Re: Baby Hakea's planted finally. 88Jun 05, 2011 7:28 pm Thank you Fu to the spacing distance. We went with 1.5 m between each one. Re: Baby Hakea's planted finally. 89Jun 11, 2011 6:44 pm The main part of the front garden is under serious attack from weeds atm. However the other side is not too bad. I went out to plant a few more kangaroo paws today. 2 punnets of 6 for $3 each. How could I resist. The new ones are Anigozanthos manglesii Which is what most of the ones already planted are. The ones I planted last year are looking pretty good. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ I also have one surviving plant from a more dwarf variety. Can;t remember what it is off the top of my head. But it too is looking nice and healthy. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Come spring hopefully I will get some awesome flowers from these. Re: Baby Hakea's planted finally. 90Jun 11, 2011 7:03 pm Hakeas are just gorgeous aren't they. Stunning plants. Re: Baby Hakea's planted finally. 91Jun 11, 2011 11:21 pm Just noticed your back drop there You bloody lucky so and so! What a view! Re: Baby Hakea's planted finally. 92Jun 12, 2011 10:05 am YUp The boys bedrooms look out to that. Youngest insisted his bed be positioned so he could look out to it. So they got the view and we got the street. Hmm didn't plan that very well did we. We can enjoy it when we sit out the back though. or at least when we have paving to put the chairs on we will more. Re: Baby Hakea's planted finally. 93Jun 13, 2011 6:48 pm October the 8th 2010 and then below this afternoon. We also picked up another gargoyle to add to our collection. This one went straight int the garden to sit on top of one of the retaining wall corners at the front of the house. The others are still in their boxes as unlike this one which is made of concrete they are fiberglass and need to be glued down. Photo still to come. View out the back of the house at 7am this morning looking almost south. Much nicer than the view most people have of their neighbours properties/gardens. I planted a second lot of garlic last week and might plant some more this week too! I'm not a fan of gargoyles, they kinda freak me out but that one doesn't!
