Perhaps he's trying to decide if he should cut the grass or smoke it Re: orchard and forest views 102Aug 29, 2011 9:00 am Re: orchard and forest views 103Aug 29, 2011 10:36 pm bought a dwarf granny smith tree today. So now I have 2 mulberry's, a pinkabell ( dwarf pink lady), dwarf granny smith and a navel orange tree to go in. They will be joining the lemon and mandarin already in the ground once we have our puppy fencing completed. Re: orchard and forest views 104Aug 30, 2011 11:58 am We have to do some not-so puppy fencing too. Purely to ensure that our two dogs stay away from the boundary fence behind our tanks since the *ahem...incident..with next door's cat! Which aren't sorted 100% as they've had to order a part in. But I did get to drive possibily my next car as a loaner for th day. I have to do a new lease early next year so am starting to consider my options. one of the possibles turned out to be the car they loaned me for the day. anyway went to investigate cheap paving options for a temp bit of paving and ended up buying 50 m2 of 2nds. couldn't go wrong at $20 a m2 for clay pavers . these are 225 x 225. I wanted something bigger than 190x190 pref 300x 300 as hubby refuses to lay the 400x 400's himself. Am happy enjoy to "live with these and am seriously tempted to try and talk hubby into just buying another 150m2 of these and be done with it. Would have to be on the cc though Pictures shows the sample up against our house bricks. We had jarrah gates at our last house and they were very heavy. this seemed a simple alternative. The gate matches in nicely with our roofing colour. The order has gone topsy turvy. We've now ordered some pavers for the alfresco and front verandah/entry area. Hopefully these will look good and we'll order enough to do the rest of the property soon. Re: orchard and forest views 107Sep 25, 2011 5:24 pm Wattle is VERY cute! BUt if they work out ok we might end up paving the entire 150m2 or so with them. Hubby has started on some paving. After much indecision we had decided we prefered the underneath side of the pavers. The top looked too bland. So DH had laid the pavers upside down. But now after looking at the entire section we've decided right way up will look better. So DH is going to be turning them over. Fingers crossed they still have lots in stock. The local pest control man suggested leaving a brick space between the house and paving and filling it will stones( we've decided on blue metal) He said this is great for them when they want to do their perimeter sprays etc. saves them drilling or lifting pavers. Re: orchard and forest views 111Nov 14, 2011 8:56 am It's been a while. I thought I would share some pics of our paving so far. DH has been paving a little at a time.In the end we decided to turn the pavers correct side up. However yesterday I finally planted a new magnolia to replace the one that was burnt too many times last year and didn't survive. I also cut the garlic stalks did a little rose de-heading( puppy likes to help remove the roses too. sadly he only likes to remove the ones not spent) , The garlic will be lifted in about 2 weeks. I also bought 2 more leucadendrons. They do very well here. Purple haze ( saw it in my friend's garden) and another one. Re: orchard and forest views 112Nov 19, 2011 12:40 pm Front paving is looking good. still a little more to go before DH does all the cuts. Narrow angled section will be one more paver wide and the "square closer to the gate will be wider (1 more paver) and deeper ( 2 more pavers)than it currently is before angling across and going out further to meet the gate. There will be lots of paver cuts. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Once the paving is finished I'll build a retaining bed around the rose garden out of the leftover house bricks. Re: orchard and forest views 113Nov 21, 2011 8:35 am Almost finished with the front paving.Woohoo! Straightening to be done. Then all the cuts and the edges cemented down. The earlier ones are almost to what I'd like them to be. The newer ones ( closest in the photo have a little more growth to occur yet) Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: orchard and forest views 114Nov 21, 2011 11:33 am You're getting there ... looking good! Pat on the back for DH For info on our build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=43093 Built the McLaren by Dechellis - slab down 22 Feb - handover 30 Aug 2011 - and gardens finished 9 Dec 2012!! Re: orchard and forest views 115Oct 06, 2012 8:22 pm all the paver cuts will happen after he's finished all the main areas. They'll be done with any damaged pavers so we can stretch the good pavers as much as possible. I was worried about slithery visitors. I've got an injured back atm so can't really garden at all. Been stuck for 4 months not being able to do anything much at all. Pruning the roses was a struggle 6 weeks ago. But they've come back nicely now. Lawn had a rough winter but is starting to green up again now it's warning up. The green area in the photo below is all decimated weeds. Clover mostly. This was my veggie bed 2 years ago. So there will be three different ones. DH has another 2 sections to do in paving together they'll be about 1 1/2 times the size of that last paved area. So he's got plenty still to do. He needs a change from gardening tomorrow. I guess he'll be studying. He managed to fall off the retaining wall near the clothesline today. Misjudged the edge.Oops. wounded pride, scraped hand and elbow seem to be the only wounds, luckily Re: orchard and forest views 118Mar 23, 2013 11:10 am This week: We've finally added some more fencing. Yippee. Now the weather is cooler hopefully they will be ok. Still not daring to use a shovel so I had to dig with a trowel. There's also a car park sale at the nursery over in the next town. I'm going to go and check it out later so I have a new batch of plants looking for a home. Now the fencing is done some of the temp fencing can be removed and I can use it to barricade a new planting area on the other side of the house so that the dog doesn't "garden". He loves removing newly planted things. Re: orchard and forest views 119May 26, 2013 8:58 am Re: orchard and forest views 120May 26, 2013 3:41 pm Should gave said stagger and it was yesterday.
