Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Dec 28, 2009 11:20 am Hi, I have a lovely vine in my backyard that's going a bit feral. i have an idea where i want to run the vine along the fence. I am thinking of the following: 1- The vine is in the left hand side corner. I'll place posts every two meters 2- The post will be 20cm from the fence 3- I'll dig 600mm for each fence and secure with concrete 4- The post will be 6 feet high and I'll place wires at the 6, 4 & 2 feet Does that seem reasonable? one thing that I'd like guidance on is how do you ensure the wires are stiff? i suspect with time the vine will get heavier, how do I ensure the posts are very sturdy Any advice welcome and thanks in advance. Re: How do you construct a Vine trellis? 2Dec 29, 2009 2:56 am Galv posts or coppers logs. wire every 400mm or there abouts. You will need a turn buckle to tension the wire. You may want to use galv cable as well because it will be easier than using fencing wire. That is a bit of an acquired skill The galv cable is easier to install. Drill holes through the posts and thread the wire through. There are many ways to do this but I am offering a no fuss, perhaps more expensive way but in the end easier to get right method Looking to start the journey of becoming an owner builder in SA.
